My daughter Margaret and I went to Needlepoint in Paradise to find a stocking for my first grandchild expected to arrive in late May. I wanted Margaret to pick out a stocking she would like for her child. My mother needle pointed stockings for all four of her grandchildren, and I wanted to carry on the tradition. As we walked in, Margaret exclaimed “oh Mom, this is the jam for you!” That means my paradise in her generation. I’ll try to attach a picture of the corner of the store with the stockings.
Heidi’s Progress in Nov. – Dec.
Since I am unable to attending the meeting on Wednesday, I wanted to share with you what I have done. Pictured below are the three Christmas items I have stitched and finished. The red and black ornament to the right, which I got at a previous NJNA Dec. gift exchange, is a gift for Pam this Christmas. The stocking in the middle I purchased at a trunk show at Mrs. Stitches., and started down in Florida in Oct. Bill and I are going to be grandparents for the first time in May. I will hang this little stocking with our others next week to recognize the the coming baby. The little red square ornament is a gift for my coming grandchild. I intend to gift an ornament each year.
While my daughter is with me in Florida, we are going to this fabulous needlepoint store, Needlepoint in Paradise, in Naples, which I discovered in Oct. I will have her pick out the Christmas stocking that she would like me to stitch for her child. I’ll have a deadline of a year to get it finished. May you all have a joyful Christmas and a wonderful new year.
A Little Holiday Spirit
Hi Everyone!
When Sue C and I visited Gladstone Country House last year, we decided that this outing needed to be a December tradition. So today, Sue R joined us for our second annual Holiday visit to Ellen T’s store in Gladstone, New Jersey. And what a wonderful day it was!
Ellen’s beautifully decorated Christmas trees and clever decorating ideas are inspirational and can even put a Grinch like me into the holiday spirit! I bought a “smoker” from Germany — when you place incense under the snowman, smoke comes out his pipe! He is adorable! I bought some Christmas scented incense and even my daughter, Meg, liked the smell. (Of course it doesn’t hurt that there is a fox in front of the snowman!)
After we made our purchases — complete with gift wrap when needed — we tooled on down the road to Cafe Azzurro for lunch in Peapack, New Jersey.
A yummy time was had by all! We’re already anticipating our “third annual” visit next year!
Cheers to all —
Rosie
PS — Ellen has an awesome tradition of providing a complimentary Christmas ornament with your purchase!
Hurricane Comfort and Joy
About two weeks ago, I got an e-mail from Sue C inviting me for an impromptu stitch-in at her house. It seems that two of her stitching friends were bunking in with her because they didn’t have power restored after hurricane Sandy. So — we spent a fine Thursday afternoon stitching and making new friends. A great time was had by all!
NJNA members will recognize Carol and Sue, but did you know that they are both members of EGA with Jill?
We hope other members will share their stitching experiences on our blog. Please contact Rosie to set up author privileges. If you blogged at seminar — you are ready to go!
Cheers!
Illusions — Finished!
Hi, Everyone —
I’ve been racing against a deadline since my Grand-dog is coming to visit today and I can’t have any needlework out while she is around. Those wooden stretcher bars just remind her too much of a good stick! My goal was to finish one of my two seminar pieces, Illusions! So here it is:
This really great piece by Ro Pace was so much fun to stitch because of all the Jean Hilton stitches. The lacy border is my favorite part! Another great thing is that the whole piece could be done with no laying of threads! I changed the thread color a little bit in the center star because I thought the design color was too dark. I’m happy with the balance in the change.
Feel free to send me any other seminar pieces that you have done and I’ll be happy to put them up here. Hopefully, we will have our new site up and running soon and then this can just be a faded memory!
Cheers! Rosie
Fieldtrip!
Hi, Everyone —
Sue and I decided to extend our Seminar experience a little bit more by making the trek to Ridgewood Needlepoint’s new digs in Wyckoff, NJ. This new location is decidedly closer to us and has the advantage of convenient free parking and lovely natural light.
Once inside, the store still carries an array of beautiful threads and painted canvasses. I took my Lombard Street canvas and was looking for threads to implement a different idea for the bricked street — how amazing that this was the day that Eileen Aird, the prior owner and the creator of my wonderful Lombard stitch guide, was visiting in the shop from Tucson!
After a couple of hours in the shop, we took their recommendation and had lunch at Cafe Amici — a few blocks away and a waiting line for lunch! Delicious!
Of course, we had to stop at Mrs. Stitches when we got back to Mendham!
Cheers to all — hope to see you at next week’s meeting. Sue and I are both making steady progress on our Seminar pieces — are you??

A FAB Week
Well, we all made it through the week. I am sure everyone learned as much as I did in their classes. It is always fun to pick up some little tidbits of info to use on your next stitching project.
I was very thankful to achieve the level of Fellow Teacher in the Master Teacher program last night. Plus, the added surprise of the Massachusetts Excellence in Teaching scholarship was quite a surprise. Guess I really will have to pursue the Sr. Master level now!
I have been home for one day and am already thinking about what I will be teaching in Chicago. Proposals need to be in by March 2013. No rest for the weary!
It certainly was great week. I am hopeful everyone had as great of a time as I did.
Thanks for sharing all the photos – they have been alot of fun!
Susan

By the way, for those of you who are only following the e-mail updates on the blog, you might want to go onto the official site to see some of the pictures that were uploaded late and inserted into the blog via edits.

NJNA President Susan H with her gift (fox pin) for becoming a Fellow Teacher in ANG. She also won a scholarship toward her pursuit of the next level of Teacher.
Cheers and Happy Labor Day to All! Rosie
PS — Kudos to Anne Carol for winning an opportunity basket! See blog post from earlier this week.
Lucky Friday!
Hi, Everyone —
Another fun day of stitching! We did a few more stitches on Illusions — a great border of which only 1/5 of the design is shown in the picture. Mostly, we walked through the remaining stitches on the piece and were promised an e-mail if we sent our questions to Ro.
The exciting thing that happened today was that I won a door prize in yesterday’s drawing! My prize is a small kit from Orna Willis. It is stitched on metal screen.
After the day’s stitching was over, I did my 45 minute swim — five adult lap swimmers in the one lane pool! A bit crowded to say the least.
So I’ll try to take some pictures at the awards dinner tonight, but I won’t post them until I get home — I don’t want to pay for another day of internet. Harold will drive down in the morning to pick Sue and I up. I think we are all ready to get home. All in all this was a glorious week and I’m already looking forward to Anaheim!
Cheers! Rosie
Last day
I can’t believe how quickly the week went by and yet last Saturday seems a long time ago. Has anything important happened in the world that we wouldn’t have picked up from USA Today? We haven’t had the TV on since we arrived. (I got the Yankee scores online). Today was a repeat of yesterday for me; just a wonderful class with a great teacher. We did a few of the blocks and reviewed the others. By changing the colors and rotating the canvas, it looks like a greater variety of stitches. The only problem will be to make sure that I am orienting the canvas correctly and using the right stitch and threads for each block.
After class, I needed to stretch out the leg muscles a bit so I walked to the LOVE square park–turned out to be a much shorter walk than I anticipated but I passed a number of interesting buildings.
Tonight is the Awards Banquet. The NJNA gals, except Susan H., an award winner, will be sitting together. You can imagine the trouble we will create!
I am looking forward to our September meeting and seeing/showing our projects!
Sue
