SOTM – March Meeting

Standard

Friday’s snow did not deter our Stitch of the Month group from gathering today.  Ten stitchers met at Linda’s house this month to work on our 2017  projects – My Way by Carolyn Mitchell and Stars for a New Millennium by Tony Minieri – or to complete work on an older project.  As always, we enjoyed the camaraderie and the opportunity to get advice about the stitching.  And, we celebrated Jill’s birthday with a delicious German Chocolate Cake from Sue.

We are working at our own pace so we stitch what we can each month.  Here  is our progress this month from Margaret, Mally, Nancy, Sylvia, Joan, Linda, Jill, Sue, Robin, and Barbara.

Our April meeting is the same day as the NJ NeedleFest so we will be taking our stitching on the road.  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s progress!

Happy stitching …

Linda

December SOTM

Standard

Hi Everyone —

I think December is my favorite SOTM month since we end the year with stitching and a pot-luck luncheon!  We had appetizers, salads, soups, casseroles, fruit, and (of course) dessert!  What a wonderful tradition!

In addition to stitching, December is the month where we start to discuss our plans for next year.  I think I’ll be continuing on Ruby Razzle Dazzle again, but with all of the wonderful suggestions, I may get sucked into something new!  HA!

Here’s our progress on this year’s ANG project:

Don’t these look wonderful?  Kudos to all for the great progress!

Happy New Year to all!

Cheers, Rosie

The Real SOTM!

Standard

Hi Everyone —

With so many people away this month and the last two posts about Alternative SOTMs and Alternative Seminars, I felt the need to represent the real, true NJNA SOTM.  Wish you were here!

Last Saturday, seven of us met at Sue’s house for stitching and conversation.  Five of us are working on the ANG SOTM by Susan Hoekstra and two of us are working on 2014 and 2015 SOTM projects.  (The only exception to attending and NOT working on the current project is if you are working on an older SOTM project!)

So here are the results at the end of the day:

Clockwise from the top:  Nancy W, Barbara L, Joan, Sue C, and Carol.

Rosie’s “Razzle Dazzle” on the left and Dee’s “A Different View” on the right.  Slow but steady progress!

Aren’t all the color choices awesome?  A good time was had by all!

Alternative SOTM

Although I am missing the actual get-together today for this month’s SOTM, it doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on the piece.

I was somewhat surprised when I saw the instructions — “daisies” seem pretty far afield from the all the other very geometric stitches. And I have to say, I’m not sure that I like them. And I admit to finding them pretty boring to stitch. But I’ve finished two sides, and here they are:

SOTM, March, 2016

Standard

We are in our third month of the ANG SOTM designed by Susan Hoekstra. So this is the second round about the center. The stitch this month is the Byzantine which you will see in a variety of threads in the photos. Since you may begin wherever you have a long diagonal run of complete stitches, you will see a variety of appearances. Some of us changed from under compensating to over compensating, and the compensating will be in different areas but everything works. Linda M. even managed to complete the section before the day ended! As it was Jill’s birthday (what better way to spend a birthday than stitching with friends?), we had sponge cake with strawberries for dessert. Let’s see if I can get the pieces labelled correctly!

Upper left, Joan, S. upper right , Sue C. Bottom,, Dee L. completed the second medallion from 2014!

Nancy W. on the left and Mally B. on the right. As a first timer, Mally is really going to town!

Robin M. upper left and Mary D. upper right with Linda M.’s completed round!

Jill W. on the left, the green on the dark green canvas does not show up well, but Tina F.’s red/pink shows up well in the turquoise canvas!

Next month we will be stitching at NeedleFest on our SOTM and Susan H. will be able to see our work and colors!

February SOTM

Standard

Hi Everyone —

What a great time we had at last Saturday’s SOTM stitch-in.  You will see that the color choices are greatly varied and we enjoyed having a few new members this month!  We are having a great time with Susan’s beautiful design.

At some risk, I am going to name the stitchers:

  • Top Row:  Joan, Mally
  • Second Row:  Jill, Nancy
  • Third Row:  Rosie, Carol
  • Fourth Row:  Barbara L, Sue C

Apologies in advance for my errors.  Check back here for next month’s progress!  We have a large group this year and are very much enjoying the fellowship!  In case you were wondering — Rosie is still working on last year’s SOTM.  A prior SOTM is the only allowable alternative in this group!

Cheers!

Rosie
