We had a great meeting this past Wednesday. Even though we ran long I don’t think anyone cared. We had a visitor at the library and really hope she decides to join us. We finished up with Melita’s band sampler and picked her brain about how she did what she did. We also marveled at so many Show and Shares.

ANG has announced they are having 2 FREE Lectures in September (yes, it’s almost here!) Both are by well known designers and have to be interesting. The first is being given by Jennifer Riefenberg – “What Makes a Design Work” on 9/9 at 6PM EST and the 2nd is by Sue Reed – “Tips and Tricks” 9/19 at 12PM EST. You should be getting an email to sign up starting August 31.

Congratulations to ANG for the haul they brought in on the silent auction. They raised $35,045 !!! Watch for the next one coming in October !

Have you checked your email??? Penny Linn just put out a phone APP. Like many others you can have new items at your finger tips !! Ugh – just what we needed !!

Since we are talking Penny Linn – they are trying something new at their New York store – Men’s Stitching Night ! Hope it catches on ! https://pennylinn.com/pages/new-york-store?srsltid=AfmBOop7p7o4vpcEgXIVgnIHAGslhwppulcLuor3vQd9WHEByMdSTX7v

Are you ready to welcome back Mrs. Meshugga?? Mrs. Meshugga can’t wait for the Grand Re-Opening and has set up a special event !!! The actual Re-Opening is 9/6 but Lisa has been busy setting up all new threads, canvases…. and wanted to give everyone a “sneak peak”. To help those frazzled parents of school children she is opening on 9/1/26 from 10 am to 5 pm so you can drop the kids at school, come see the new store, grab a Mimosa and decompress. The place should be something to see as they have taken over the entire space ! https://www.mrsmeshugga.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooi36GFeYOb1XKEMMDxEX-wvufM_WjSxTU2y0Be9th6ioQBZBtA

One of the newest shops in our area “Lucy Lane” is planning a full Fall Schedule ! Check out her events as she is having a Gilmore Girls Movie night (pop tarts, Mallomars, hot cocoa, Chinese Food…). Monograming a luggage tag class and an 8 week Decorative Stitch Master Class. Ashli is excited to start the Fall !! https://lucylaneneedlepoint.com/pages/events

Get ready for Stitch By Stitch’s 2027 retreat. I went earlier this year and it is an amazing time. The lottery opens on September 10th at 8 am and is cut off Sept 17th at 8 PM. There is room for 80 people and the lucky winners names will be pulled on Instagram Monday Sept 28th. Good Luck to all !! https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/pages/needlepoint-retreat-at-mohonk-mountain-house

There is also a new retreat – this time to the Caribbean! You can sign up to take a cruise with Kathy Rees of Needle Delights and Toni Gerdes for “Sailing Stitches 2027”. This is a 9 night western Caribbean Cruise on the Celebrity Eclipse. It departs on April 2, 2027 from Fort Lauderdale and goes to Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Thomas. Sounds good to me !!! https://www.funseas.com/stitches-carib

Tips & Tricks: For those times when you want to make an “impression” – how about a Lipstick Needle Holder. And it even comes in 3 colors ! Who thinks of these things? The pin cushion is made of wool so it actually cleans your needle when you use it ! https://www.canvasqueenneedlepoint.com/products/lipstick-needle-holder-white-tube-with-pink-wool-cushion

Who was that Famous Stitcher? That is Melissa Prince – you know her from her women on a vespas or her angular colorful animals along with many familiar designs. She started out in a family advertising firm. A friend introduced her to needlepointing. She did some paintings for her local LNS and the rest is history. https://www.melissaprincedesigns.com/

Our July meeting was a great continuation of the Year of Color. We had a discussion by Melita G on her award winning “A Spring Sampler”. This is the first half of the discussion as the 2nd half will be in August. We spoke about all the things that Jacqui taught us in the first half of the year – color, value, threads, stitches…. A logical progression so we can put all we learned to use. Don’t forget, we are selling the instructions to NJNA members via PDF for $7.50. Get a copy and come join the fun.

Not to get ahead of ourselves – BUT – when you finish stitching this piece you can go to KC Needlepoint and they have a deal to have it finished into a “clutch” for $95 and it will take about 1 month! A phenomenal deal !! You would need to email KC Needlepoint and ask how to get your finished piece finished but here are the specifics. kcneedlepointfinishing@gmail.com

By now you should have the July issue of Needle Pointers magazine. I know when I got mine I immediately flipped to the Tale of Two Stitchers article. The one on the left is stitched by our own Cathryn C. We might be partial as to which one we like best. You decide !

The Denver Seminar wrapped it all up on Thursday the 23rd. Looking forward to hearing how great a time everyone had. Next year it’s going t be in Nashville TN and it will be a shorter version. They are planning on 4 days instead of 6 days. Because it’s abbreviated from past seminars there will be no exhibit. All those that attended the Denver seminar got to view next years offerings – looking forward to hearing what is coming up.

Many at NJNA gave feed back for a program by Lorene Salt and most wanted her “Africana” piece. She was not offering it at that time so we went with her “Circles of Life” – also a lovely piece. The Metropolitan Region of EGA is offering “Africana” to all at NJNA. Registration is open until 9/8/26 if you are interested. The class will be held via Zoom over 4 days in March of 2027. Contact Janice Meyer for more details.

America’s Tapestry is starting to make their rounds around the 13 states making up the original colonies of the USA. It will be visiting New Jersey in Oct – Dec of this year. If you would like to support the project, you can go to their web site where they sell prints, posters, postcards and books about the project. They also have for sale a Needle Minder for $12. It’s a Limited Edition and they only made 100. What a neat way to help support this incredible endeavor. https://www.americastapestry.com/shop

NEW SHOP ALERT ! Cathryn C. and Barbara L. of our chapter went on a search for “Lucy Lane”. the new shop that just opened in New Providence NJ. Ashli, the owner of the shop greets you as you come in and looks to be following the format of the newer stores. Her shop is bright and open. She has lots of smaller canvases (and waiting on a shipment of 200+ more). She also carries several very nice thread lines. There are 2 tables to hang out and stitch and they will be open once a month in the evening for “open stitching”. Check her web site for hours. Her plan is to go to the next market and bring back lots of new items and in particular, Colors of Praise canvases. Sounds like a great place for a new stitcher. Nothing better than a new store to check out ! Good luck to Ashli and Lucy Lane Needlepoint. – lucylaneneddlepoint.com

Morgan Julia Designs in Jersey City is looking for Full Time employees ! You can have your canvas and stitch it too !!! Just know that her items sell out REALLY fast so having an inside tract would not be a bad thing ! https://morganjuliadesigns.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopUbOb4tLYXTTsnNjKtHer1nc7yEf3uprFoLrXJH1zpi1eSr5WV

Rachel Barri Designs has a new color in her line of “pouches” that look so light and pretty you want one of each. They come in several sizes and shapes AND of course she has adorable canvases to put in the windows of them. Thankfully the one I really liked, the “Citrus Slice” was sold out !! Guess I have to wait ! She has many other items that will tempt you – not a bad thing! https://rachelbarridesigns.com/collections/new-1

Have you joined the Mah Jong craze??? It is played in many needle point shops as a way to learn the game and make new friends. Not surprising that many that play also needle point ! Penny Linn has a new line of Mah Jong canvases – so different and pretty. Of course they also fit in the top of her hinged acrylic box which happens to be a great size to store your Mah Jong tiles ! Love when you can multi task ! https://pennylinn.com/collections/oh-my-mahjong?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=7%2F13+OMM+Launch&_kx=95-hSwAYM_w1abxIXjXQMDX2ZPJpMD1KDiXnRxmVLaI.RspkHP

Friends recently did a retreat at Island House Needlepoint in South Norwalk CT. Part of their “swag” was a great bag with their name embroidered on and the bag was made from reclaimed boating sails. The bags feature a full width zipper, web grab handle, and loops for attaching shoulder straps. Inside seams are covered with binding to protect your needlepoint from damage. The zipper is intentionally placed 2″ below the top edge to keep your belongings contained when the bag is open on a table. This would make a wonderful one of a kind gift for any stitcher. https://islandhouseneedlepoint.com/product/project-bag-reclaimed-sailcloth/

So many of us are Lowery Lovers!! Between the variety of colors to the helpful accessories it’s a great product. They have now a new light to attach. The prior light they offered was adjusted by springs like what you think of on an Architects drawing board. Their new one has a flexible gooseneck with a more powerful light and 5 color temperatures along with a dimmer. The controls are on the lamp to easily put on or off and change the light color. They also sell separately a bracket so you can attach the light to a nearby table. The light comes in either black or white. https://www.workstands.com/store#!/Lumina-Lamp/p/836224760

Tips & Tricks: I was recently looking at the box of tacks most places sell to secure your canvas to the stretcher bars. In the box is a blue piece of plastic that you are supposed to use to remove the tacks when you are done – pathetic ! Make your life easy and go to our “Go To” store and buy a simple tool for $7 that will never ruin your fingernails !

Who was that Famous Stitcher? This is Laura Moore of Moore Stitching. She has a B.F.A. in Ballet and later did corporate event planning and communications. A stitcher for more than 35 years she is the creator of those wonderful canvases of recognizable people like Ina Garten, Snoop Dog, Lucy, Audrey Hepburn, Diana Ross…. https://moorestitching.com/

I looked at the calendar and realized 2 weeks had gone by and I needed to do the blog – then I realized it was mid July – how did that happen??? This week is our next meeting – already ! If you have checked out your email you will have gotten one from Noelle (our fearless leader). She announced that our next 2 meetings will be a continuation of our exploration of color ! Melita G will be telling us about her design process and color philosophy. The chapter will be offering Melita’s award winning design at half price. It could be a good stash buster ! Details on getting the instructions are in Noelle’s email and will be discussed at the meeting. Wed night at 7 pm – see you then!

Mid July also means that it’s time for this year’s seminar in Denver CO. The big event starts this week on the 18th and they will be having a new feature of Open Stitching – even if your not a member. Everyone going should have a good time and enjoy all that seminar has to offer.

Yesterday the email came from ANG and we finally got a look at the new Needle Pointers Magazine! I don’t know about you but the first thing I turn to is the Tale of 2 Stitchers and this time in particular. Last month we got to see Jacqui’s piece and this time Cathryn’s Gazebo is in the magazine. Many of us got to watch the process and see her canvas evolve into the masterpiece it became. We were also lucky enough to see it framed. The pictures in the magazine are great but in person – no comparison. The other woman, Suzanne, also did a wonderful job stitching her canvas. We can’t help but be biased though. Check out the magazine online to see all the details – very interesting to read and see the differences.

That email from ANG was packed with great information including the new Quarterly Stitch ! I and several others are stitching our own versions of Marion Scoular’s “The Princess and the Pea”. This piece is all done in Blackwork which is what this quarter’s all about. Blackwork Sampler 2 by Amy Wolfson. Some of the patterns look like they can be adapted to a mattress or two. As soon as I am done here I will be downloading this project. It’s a more complex technique than many of us thought !

If your a fan of Julie Snyder she is coming to Ridgewood Needlepoint to teach canvas embellishment on November 7 & 8. The class is limited to 10 so you need to be quick. They require a deposit so call the store at 201-612-7770. She has published more than 10 books and is a nationally acclaimed needlepoint instructor.

With July being a rather Patriotic month The Needle Pointer has a series of Military Patches you can stitch. A nice way to commemorate family and friends that have served. There are a dozen to choose from. https://theneedlepointer.com/collections/us-military?se_activity_id=174738440434&syclid=d998mfav8rcs73c080c0&utm_campaign=Celebrate+Service+with+a+Handmade+Keepsake_174738440434&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email

If you need a “Grab and Go” small project The Needle Pointer has very cute cocktail charms (fobs) they call “Sips and Stitches”. You have 6 cocktails to choose from in pretty colors. Great little item to put on a hand bag or to carry for some stitching while you wait! Everything is included to both stitch it and finish it. https://theneedlepointer.com/products/cocktail-mini-fob-collection?se_activity_id=175073657074&syclid=d999kerm30jc7390v3o0&utm_campaign=Shake+Up+Your+Style+with+Cute+Cocktail+Charms%21_175073657074&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email

There is nothing more iconic to summer than New England and along with that is Sara Fitz (who happens to be the niece of one of our members! ) She has just dropped a bunch of new canvases, needle minders and brand new project bags ! There is something about her designs that make you smile. She has even collaborated with LL Bean for bedding! Her needlepoint sells out quickly (totally understandable) but many other things in her line make great gifts. https://www.sarafitz.com/collections/needlepoint?page=3

Rachel Barri has some new Mezuzah canvases. A quick stitch and a very lovely gift. Check out her other Judaica items as most people do not associate her with these canvases. She has a great sense of humor on some of the camvases along with her other lovely canvases, such as her bags ! https://rachelbarridesigns.com/collections/judaica?page=1

I hate to say it but… Fall is coming! LOL And before you know it too ! I am stitching a sign for my stitching room “This Is My Happy Place” from Stitch Rock Designs. I got to thinking about other canvases I have to stitch by the same designer and realized Halloween is coming, I should get moving. Then I got several emails saying that Christmas finishing is about to be cut off ! Yikes – it’s coming to fast ! Think about stitching one to two holidays/seasons ahead ! Here are the other items from Stitch Rock in my stash, you might want to revisit your stash in advance of Fall and be ahead of the game! Then again – the end of September is the Autumn Needlepoint Reunion Trade Show! https://stitchrockdesigns.com/

Tips & Tricks: Ugh – Neon Rays, Flair, Frosty Rays….stitching with these beautiful threads can try your patience. They and others shred as you pull them thru the canvas. Yes, you need a shorter length to stitch with than you may like but another help is to burn the ends ! They call them thread burners or zappers – all the same thing. I just purchased a new one (I am sure you can guess where I got it!) and this one is rechargeable. The older ones used a battery. This tool has also gone high tech! This one has a cap to protect the tip and a screen to display the power left. It’s light, fits your hand easily and even comes in pink !!

Who was that Famous Stitcher? This is Emily Oliver, one of the designers under the Rachel Barri Designs company. She is from Virginia Beach and loves classic style designs. Look her up on Rachel Barri’s web site (gotta love the Hot Cocoa). https://rachelbarridesigns.com/collections/emily-oliver-studio

Everyone going to Seminar have a Fabulous Time !!

I hope you didn’t miss Jacqui’s last program on color where she tied it all together. If you couldn’t make it, it should be on the web site so you can catch it and realize how you have been picking colors rather blindly all these years. I believe we all have a much better understanding of color and it’s many variations along with how to use it to your advantage on your projects. The color wheel – never leave home without it !!!

Tick – Tock – the ANG Seminar is around the corner – do you have your needlepoint packed yet? July 18 – 23rd in Denver this year. At this point registration is closed and classes are full. So if you missed all the festivities ANG has something new that they just posted a few days ago – Fun Freebies. Go to ANG’s web site and under “Educational Offerings” you will find 11 small projects that are free for the taking. Many are beginner level but there are also several for the experienced stitcher. A great way to make an ornament, use up stash and learn some new stitches. https://www.needlepoint.org/page/fun-freebies?_zs=QhCog1&_zl=oGpoA

All you Bedecked and Bedazzled fans – Ruth has opened up her October Zoom-bellishment class. It will be given on October 17 – 18 from 11 – 4 est. She has 11 canvases, both old and new to choose from. Sign up quick before she runs out of the canvas you like. She has already had 34 people sign up before she announced the class or which canvases she is doing! Die hard fans! https://bedeckedandbeadazzled.com/2026/06/october-zoom-bellishement-2026-is-open/

Stitch By Stitch’s Famous “Mohonk Mountain House Retreat” is coming again. No surprise that it is a lottery as there are so many that are dying to go. I don’t blame them – I went last year and it is an extraordinary event. You will be able to put your name into the lottery in August. The retreat will be from March 14 – 17, 2027 (It will be here in a Flash!).

Want to try a retreat but don’t want to go thru the hassle of a hotel and transportation?? Check out Lindy Stitches. They do a series of “Virtual Retreats”. Stitchers from around the world will be getting together on July 18 – 19 for the “Midsummer Stitch”. This is mostly a cross stitch event but they have classes, shopping opportunities and different rooms to join in stitching with people. At the end they have a session where everyone shows off what they have been stitching. For the price of the ticket it might be a fun thing to try. https://www.accelevents.com/e/midsummer-stitch-2026

Have you tried some of Tilli Thomas’s threads – Essential’s or Milan? Essentials has 243 colors and is so convenient to be able to buy them on the small cards for when you have a small area. Milan has 276 colors and so soft to work with. Now you can buy both, threads on cards AND in skeins. The skeins have 30 years compared to the cards with 10 yards. Stitch By Stitch in NY carries both but check out your LNS. https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/collections/planet-earth-essentials-1

Gone Stitching has a new book “Fine I’ll Do It Myself” This is in addition to their other witty titles and can now be preordered. This time the book includes canvas samples to stitch and the book has a storage pocket for what you have completed. They expect shipment soon. https://www.gonestitching.net/products/ill-do-it-myself

The rather new store Mrs. Meshugga closes tomorrow 6/28 at 4 pm – but it’s a good thing. They are in a small space that is part of a larger space with several vendors. They are now taking over the entire space and are closing for a short time to renovate. In the mean time they are having a Stitch & Swim event. When you pay the fee they give you the location to come to on LBI (for those non NJ people – Long Beach Island!) Of course there is a limited number of seats so don’t be disappointed if it’s sold out. We will have to watch for her Grand Reopening. https://www.mrsmeshugga.com/pages/our-story

New LNS Alert !! Lucy Lane Needlepoint is opening today 6/27/26 in New Providence NJ. From the few pictures on Instagram it looks like a big and bright space. Looking forward to see this new shop when they open the doors.

Needlepoint .com has a new “Stars & Stripes” collection just for the 250th celebration. There are 18 designs – all adorable. Check them out – there is always next year ! https://needlepoint.com/collections/two-sister-stars?_kx=SpNrwJYeSg8JHGV3vDRNkpeUD67Ddf2hdz1HBTATTO0.TxAVmM&utm_campaign=2026_06_25+July+4th&utm_klaviyo_id=01EY735XHE675Z0Z1C4Z7SB8DK&utm_medium=campaign&utm_source=Klaviyo

Tips & Tricks: Confess – how many needle minders do you really have??? And Then – where are they all ??? I know that I have them all over the place. They are in every WIP, on metal carts – every where but the refrigerator. A solution to the madness – no, not stop buying them – our favorite place to shop – Amazon. (17.7″ x 11.8″ 2 Pack Metal Magnetic Board – Magnet Bulletin Board to Display Magnetic Letters Numbers Animal, Poetry, Spice Jars, Notes, Photos, Suitable for Wall, Refrigerator, Cubicle, Cabinet) I leaned it on a stand to prop up a picture or frame and perfection ! Works great !!! (and I am glad you get 2 of them as there is overflow !)

Who was that Famous Stitcher? I am sure you all got this one correct – Brooke Shields. She says she “doesn’t leave home without her needlepoint”. She says it keeps her calm so she doesn’t spin out of control” I think we all do it partly for the same reason !!

Do you know who this Famous Stitcher is?

Everyone have a wonderful July 4th celebration – Happy Birthday USA !!

All the holidays are done, the snow seems to finally have left us and the time change is giving us more sun in the day and better stitching weather !! Wa Hoo !! It couldn’t have come soon enough. This week is already the next NJNA meeting !! Jacqui will be doing a much anticipated presentation on gray scale. Understanding the contrast of blacks and whites makes picking thread colors easier. Kind of like putting white lettering on a black background reads easier than on a light grey background. I am sure she can explain it better than I can which is why this meeting will be so interesting. We also need to think about next years workshop as the Lorene Salt “Circle of Life” is in the history books now – all the ones I saw were stunning !! Amy is already talking to 2 designers for next year !!

Are you going to the ANG Seminar in Denver? If so, I hope you got your classes as there are already 14 that are sold out. Registration closes on April 17th so you need to hurry.

A big congratulations and Thank You to all the new ANG Board Members. They will be serving until 2027 and hopefully beyond.

ANG is keeping up with technology and now has media pages on 3 different platforms. Which ever way you like to view new needlepoint happenings, you can keep up with ANG also. You can find ANG now on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/angneedlepointcommunity?rdid=9LJWQpK3jLUtqlKE&share_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fshare%2F1Dw15a6LES%2F Instagram https://www.instagram.com/needlepointcommunity?igsh=bGp3bWl3cTV5bWht and Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/@needlepointcommunity?_r=1&_t=ZT-946ePKuxGl3

You don’t need to be a “Bag Lady” to buy the new book by Meredith Willett. The owner and amazing stitcher of M’s Canvas house has a new book “Stitch Beautifully”. It has all the info you need to perfect your needlepoint techniques. https://www.mscanvashouse.com/shop/Books/p/Stitch-Beautifully-x99891509.htm

There is also another new publication from the editor of Needlepoint Now magazine. Stitch School Vol #1 – Background Stitches. The book is online only so you can take it any where on a device. It shows charts and photos of various back ground stitches with the ability to print them. Each stitch also has a video tutorial you can access. There is a promise for more books to come. https://www.amkpublications.com/product/stitch-school-background-stitches-volume-1/

Stitch Stash has introduced a new thread for needlepoint called Silky and it’s made by Moondrake Co. https://moondrakeco.com/collections/needlepoint. It’s made of 100% Grade A mulberry silk. Look at the Moondrake web site to see all the vibrant colors clearer – all 40 of them! Stitch Stash says the amazing ones are the neon colors. There are 26 yards to a skein and she says it’ so soft it glides thru the canvas ! https://stitch-stash.com/collections/silky-thread/products/moondrake-co-silky-aureate

New Stores are popping up or will be soon. In Hoboken The Little Stitchery has opened. 736 Washington St. https://www.thelittlestitcheryndlpt.com/about

This week Morgan Julia Designs is doing a Pop Up in Dallas and it’s all about denim – except the 3D Taco ! When they finished it they put it in a “Taco Bell” wrapper ! Tips and Tricks: After all that your going to need a Jelly Tote !! It’s a nice size tote bag but not overwhelming – nothing like the Hulken bags. It’s very spacious yet light weight and easy to clean. Extra wide straps for comfort and you can even see thru it (some what). It has a small pouch for your phone or small items that is attached to a key leash so you can’t lose it. Best part – it folds flat! Look on Bedecked and Bedazzled for the purple version though it comes in other colors on your favorite online store!! https://bedeckedandbeadazzled.com/product/purple-transparent-jelly-tote/

Who was that Famous Stitcher? That is Jeannette Tombaugh of Mountain Peaks Studio. She is the resident canvas expert at “A Stitching Shop” in Denver. She creates both counted and painted needlepoint canvases. You may have seen her classes thru EGA, Cyberpointers, ANG and NAN. She is known for her canvas “Beyond the Moon”. This canvas was inspired by a distant cousin of her husband who discovered the plant “Pluto” !

Stitch By Stitch in Larchmont NY each year has a retreat that is hard to get into. I believe there were 80 seats and close to 600 people that wanted one of those seats !! You can enter their lottery either as an individual or as a “team”. I entered as a team with 3 other NJNA members. Stitch By Stitch does a Live Face Book drawing of the lucky winners and for the first time they pulled my name !! The “team” got in!

If you have read in prior blogs that I have done, Stitch By Stitch is always a favorite. The way they handled this retreat was with precision !! They pulled the names in September for an event held March 22 – 25th. You were informed all along the way what was coming next and what you had to do so that everything ran smoothly. If you had a question – they had the answer !! It was a pleasure going to an event that had it all covered.

The Mohonk Mountain House building is from the 1860’s and there is a glacial lake in front of it. The Smiley Family have owned the property for over 150 years. There is plenty to do at this place from riding to golf to the spa – and even dance lessons. The room was very comfy and had a balcony with a rocking chair and an amazing view. In fact there are little sitting areas and porches with rocking chairs all over.

Unfortunately we did not have the best weather (it even snowed one day) so we did not get to enjoy to much of the out doors but we were there to stitch ! The food in this place was not only delicious but plentiful. You ate in a beautiful room that had wood everywhere in the Craftsman style. We did have dinner 2 nights in the “Founder’s Room” – a private dining area. The interesting part was getting your dinner buffet style “In The Kitchen” ! A unique experience as you stood on line next to the organically growing herbs !

The stitching room was in a separate building that was filled with light. Eight people to a table and our table had women from Long Island. We couldn’t have asked for nicer women to sit with. Actually, all the attendees were very friendly and helpful. The 3 trunk shows in the stitching room – Elizabeth Crane Swartz, Gingham Stitchery and Plum Stitchery along with other items from Stitch By Stitch gave you plenty of shopping opportunities. Elaine Adonidis was also on hand for some short classes on embellishments.

You also did not want for snacks and drinks – they were plentiful all day every day. There were lovely raffle prizes, a pajama party and the topper of it all was the “Swag Bag”. What was at your seat as a gift was over the top. So many great items too numerous to list. I will tell you that when I got back and showed friends what we got – I believe some ordered a few of the items as they loved them and couldn’t not have them.

No matter where you walk there it is a distance. You were also so busy all the time that you were tired everyday. Turn down service even made your night a neat experience with a note and chocolate on your pillow. After a good nights rest we were all ready to go again !

There is so much more to do there that it makes a great get away place that is close to home yet far removed from daily life. It was a wonderful experience and a fun day every day because Betty, Susan, Linda, Catherine and Karen did such a good job of making sure you wanted for nothing ! Good luck to all who enter the lottery in the future. You will not be disappointed.

Today was the NJNA Holiday Lunch at The Grain House in Basking Ridge NJ. Always a nice time. So great to see people in person and chat. The food never disappoints but the real draw is to see everyone’s stitching that they bring to show. Jacqui and Cathryn also told us about this year being the year of color. We all got a color wheel, ring for our up coming threads, a colorful magnet courtesy of Linda M and a pen !! LOL The pen was for a fun circle a word while we were waiting for our desert ! We were also surprised with our President Noelle D. having flown in for the occasion. There was an amazing amount of talent in the room was on display for all to see. Here are some pictures of projects and “The Year of Color”.

Have you renewed your National ANG dues yet?? If not just know that some are having trouble with the web site. You can call them directly to see how to pay until they get their web site fixed. Their number is 856-380-6911.

Oh My ! The new Needle Pointers magazine is on it’s way and it never disappoints. The cover is great the back cover is spectacular! What is in between will keep you turning pages for quite a while. Our own Melita G is in for her wins at seminar not to mention her column – Timeless Treasures From The Archives. I found lots of surprises and then I got to the Tale of Two Stitchers – I can’t wait to read it in hand to see more details. In just looking thru the digital copy – how creative a group are we ! Amazing pieces that seem to only get better and better.

ANG now has something new called Independent Learning. This is Correspondence Courses, CyberWorkshop, and Workshop by Mail all rolled into one. Two ways to learn and a simplified registration process all to make it easier to enjoy a class. Check it out on the web site (after they fix it) and there should be 2 courses you can already choose from.

ANG also announced the new Stitch of the Month – or should I say “Beard of the Month” VERY different! Each month is a new pattern to create a different looking beard. All of the designs are by Janet Zickler Casey. Not just for Santa or a Nutcracker, they can be used on any canvas needing a beard or maybe some interesting hair !?!?!?!

Was your interest tickled to hear what Pantone’s color of the year is for 2026? What were they thinking?? White ! They may call it “Cloud Dancer” and we know there are enough whites to make you dizzy but – it’s white ! They need to step up their game for next year !

The Needlepointer has something new – an ornament and as part of the kit you get everything needed to finish it. They also include access to one of their videos to get step by step visual instructions. A good way to learn finishing an ornament as it’s getting harder and harder to get things back. https://theneedlepointer.com/products/complete-ornament-stitch-amp-self-finishing-kit-with-tutorial-video?se_activity_id=169461580018&syclid=d5gpbou7kkjc73eemo8g&utm_campaign=Shop+This+Exciting+NEW+Arrival+Now%21_169461580018&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email

Stitch Stash has a new club that runs for 6 months starting in February. Each month you get an ornament designed by Elizabeth Crane Swartz (known for her dots). You have to commit to 3 months or go for all six. You receive the canvas, stitch guide done by Patti Hoffmann, thread kit and it all ships for free. These ornaments are ECS’s original artwork she used for her past Christmas cards. https://stitch-stash.com/products/the-card-art-club

Stitch Rock has a bunch of holiday canvases (for next year) on their web site – one cuter than the next! You have to love the “Pug in a Pumpkin” needle minder also. Check out her array of canvases from The Griswold Family Vacation, new stamps etc. Not small canvases but certainly not big – like Goldilocks – “Just Right”. https://stitchrockdesigns.com/

Tips & Tricks: Have you ever dropped your scissors – silly question. What happens to the point? Does it get damaged hitting the floor or worse hitting your foot. Protect the point with fun scissor protectors ! Check out Etsy for all of these to protect your 2nd most needed piece of equipment (needles first !)

Who was that Famous Stitcher? That is Maggie Boroujerdi – the founder of LOVE mhb Studio. A graphic designer right out of the Parsons School of Design. She worked at Martha Stewart Living and Conde Nast before venturing out on her own having been stitching for most of her life. When you look at her web site you will know many of her canvases. https://lovemhbstudio.com/

The December meeting is now in the archives for NJNA. Even though I was not able to attend this meeting I understand “Needlepoint Bingo” was a big hit. Congrats to the winners ! Hopefully we will see a repeat performance of it !! The slate of officers and the budget were all voted on and approved so we are ready to head into 2026 with more interesting topics to come. 2026 will be the Year of Color !! Each month there will be a discussion about a different color based on the color wheel and the DMC color chart – I can’t wait for blue !

Just a reminder – our holiday lunch is on Saturday January 10th at the Grain House. Last I heard there was still 3 seats left. Contact Cathryn C. – come join a fun afternoon will fellow stitchers !! Don’t forget to bring a stitched piece.

As VP of Membership, I have to thank all those people that were so quick to renew their membership for 2026. You actually have until the end of January to send in your dues. You also have to remember to first renew your ANG membership which is due by Dec 31 !!!! ANG sent out an email on 12/24 with details on the various ways to renew. They also allow you to renew for 2 years ! You must renew ANG to be a member of NJNA. You can use this link to go to ANG’s membership renewal page. https://www.needlepoint.org/general/custom.asp?page=Membership&_zs=QhCog1&_zl=JHaVA

ANG has made it official the 2026 seminar is in Denver Colorado AND 2027 is now going to be held in Nashville TN. October 21 – 24, 2027. In the mean time, you can view the classes being offered in Colorado on You Tube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di8wwUp8ZTk

Such exciting news from one of our favorite local needlepoint stores !! Stitch By Stitch is moving. If you have been to their store you know that it is very long and narrow. Barely room for a class. I have to say, they have made the most of their space over the years. Very difficult to not fall in love with numerous items at every turn. (I made the mistake of using the bathroom and left the store with a canvas that was on the wall in there !!) They will be opening on Jan 17th only one block away on the same street but in a much bigger space. Yikes – I can’t wait ! https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooH6_X6wJCDBrOoWraDtc2co2C_Yr_6w_z-KYpYT5MboZbMw3ep

We have a new LNS here in Northern NJ – Morgan Julia Designs has officially opened her new brick and mortar store – 278 Monmouth St. Jersey City NJ. From what I read the grand opening was a big success. Good luck to them – the store looks very nice in the pictures.

If you have been to The Edwardian Needle you will notice on the wall a fabulous piece of black work stitching by Marion Scoular called “The Princess and the Pea”. She has decided to retire and is downsizing her “stash” !! She lives in GA and a sale of her things is being arranged at a church in Peachtree Corners, GA. The sale is scheduled for Sat Feb 28, 2026. If you would like to know more, here is a link. https://egausa.org/marionscoular/?inf_contact_key=977581ccf15901ac24902f4399b93e28680f8914173f9191b1c0223e68310bb1

So – I have one word – MIRANEKS ! Friends saw this at a new LNS recently. Versatile and light weight. Lots of thought went into it’s design. I am talking about a new stand for stitching ! I have seen it in 2 colors (but there are several), and for the price on our “Go To” Amazon – it might be worth a try. Endless adjustments but the biggest feature is the weight – at 1.3 pounds it’s easy to take with you. Watch a video or two so as to see it in action. https://www.instagram.com/miraneks_llc/

If you enjoy ribbon work then check out the link I have attached. Piece Work Magazine has a downloadable e book for free with 4 flower sprays that have been featured in the magazine. Denna Hall West is the designer and one is prettier than the next. A great way to learn also ! https://mailchi.mp/treenwaysilks/i-love-tr-free-embroidery-ebook-from-piecework-magazine?e=911356268a

After that snow fall last night – I feel cold !!! I need to look at KC Needlepoint as they now have Needlepoint sweaters and sweatshirts or my favorite, a scarf. All subdued in their message but the scarf is very colorful. https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/collections/ornaments?omnisendContactID=61fc368aa1816e00226a532d&sort_by=created-descending&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+Swag+%28694597e20c2253f3b3b23f21%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

Who doesn’t love Ann-Marie Anderson’s designs ?!?!? She was wonderful when NJNA had her come for a workshop. Her threads and colors were eye popping and the nicest person you want to meet. Get ready – she has some new designs out ! She calls them Braids and Blackwork for her 2026 Block of the month. It will be done in 5 lessons – a release on the 2nd Sat of the month from March thru July 2026. https://beautifulstitches.thinkific.com/courses/braids-and-blackwork

For all those club lovers – The Needlepointer has a new one. The Gnome of the Month !! This is a 12 month club that starts about March 2026. You get the canvas, stitch guide, threads AND a self-finishing kit with a video tutorial. https://theneedlepointer.com/products/gnome-of-the-month-club?se_activity_id=169458008306&syclid=d584fp8oouqc73aj2ct0&utm_campaign=Don%27t%20Miss%20Out%20on%20This%20Exciting%20Club%20Offer!_169458008306&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email&selling_plan=6057001202&variant=48591517516018

TIPS AND TRICKS: If you do stitch guides or complicated charts and graphs you know how easy it is to lose your place ! Try using “highlighter tape” to easily find where you are working. The Needlepoint Clubhouse has an array of colors though I bet you can get it in Staples. I have used it and it’s a wonderful thing – less frustration !

Who was that Famous Stitcher? This is NJNA’s own Melita Glavin. She is a life long stitcher and writes a column for each issue of ANG’s The Needle Pointer Magazine. She has been very involved with the ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter, chosen for the 2023 ANG Stitch of the Month – Crescent Journey and has won numerous awards. Check out her blog (melitastitches4fun) she is always doing something interesting.

This months meeting was all about chatting and what is coming up and the best part was Noelle telling us about her being in the new issue of Needle Pointers magazine !! She again was one of the “Tale of Two Stitcher’s”. If you look at the original canvas you will see how she changed the perspective of the canvas. Instead of a more side view it is more straight on. She put in flowers where there were none, changed colors and created a spectacular piece. Patty W. did the other version and did a fine job also. That feature by Linda M. is one of the best parts of the magazine. Make sure you read it and look at all the wonderful ways a canvas can be done. Congrats. Noelle, you would have all our votes !!

Watch for a famous designer in a Tale of 2 Stitchers coming up.

We also had a quick chat about the up coming sea jelly and what is needed to stitch it. Our next workshop is still in the planning stages but it should be in March 2026 with a famous designer that many people voted for in the questionnaire. Keep an eye out for the final reveal ! The other important item is that with the seminar coming in August – there will be no August meeting. Wishing everyone going to “NOLA” a wonderful time.

As you know – ANG has had lots of Educational Offerings until now ! They are in the middle of revamping all their distance learning opportunities. They have not given a hint as to when we will see all these new projects and learning options so stay tuned !

If you have been stitching the Judyann Hearts Club you can get a jump on the threads needed for the next one. https://ang.informz.net/ang/data/images/2025%20Hearts%20Stitch%20Along%20Supplies%20List%20for%20Sept.pdf The stitch guide by Jinny Stapleton will appear in the Sept/Oct edition of Needle Pointers magazine. You can buy the canvas on the Judyann web site. Very cute small project. https://judyannneedlepoint.com/product/party-dress-heart-needlepoint-canvas/

Tips and Tricks: Speaking of seminar – I heard that the instructors have put in their letter to the students that they must bring “Cordless Flat Irons” for your threads. Unless you have a local beauty supply shop near you the easiest way to get one is – yup – you guessed it – Amazon. When you look for one double check that it is cordless. Many show up in the listings but are not actually cordless. Smaller is always better. They have various features such as different temperatures, locking handles, gauge of remaining battery life, etc. Go with the price your most comfy with and remember to get a silicone mat to place it on while it’s hot. You want smooth but not burnt Neon Rays !!

I just got a great new pair of scissors – a great item for seminar – by Victoria Whitson (thank you Joan). Not only are they very sharp but oh so comfy in your hand. If you have any kind of hand/finger disability these may be a good investment. The holes for your fingers are really big !!! They come in several colors – mine have iridescent finger holes – very stylish !! Try ’em – you’ll like ’em ! https://www.victoriawhitsonneedlepoint.com/shop-4

Looking for something new to do with your finished project ????? Morgan Julia Design had a great one !! Put a needlepoint hot dog on your ball cap and then go to a baseball game ! You will be the envy of the stadium. Of course she has the canvas but there are many other items to put on that ball cap with some imagination !!! https://morganjuliadesigns.com/search?q=hot+dog&options%5Bprefix%5D=last

Who doesn’t like Micky or Minnie ?? Well – you can stitch your own ears !!! Evergreen needlepoint has canvases so you can stitch your own set of ears and be the envy of this park as well !!! They have several choices of “stitch printed” canvases but if you want to be really different they also have a bundle you can buy that is a download. This gives you a template for 13 and 18 count canvas along with charts for 3 designs AND a resource for finishing ! What a great gift for a vacation !! https://www.evergreenneedlepoint.com/collections/mouse-ears-1?se_activity_id=162337259759&syclid=d1up4old220s73c7c250&utm_campaign=Mouse+Ears+are+Here%21_162337259759&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email

Have you heard of Sara Fitz? She is a multi talented woman that lives in Maine. She has painted the cutest “New England” items and has turned them into wall paper, pillows, trays, note paper…… and needlepoint kits ! She just came out today with some new designs. They go fast so you have to get them while they are in stock !! https://sarafitz.com/collections/needlepoint

Have you tried Milan yet??? I did recently and it is lovely. So soft and smooth. It’s a combo of Silk and Merino wool in a 30 yard skein and last I saw it came in 276 colors. Something new has been added !!!! 117 of those colors are now available in 10 yard cards for those smaller projects. Tilli Thomas Planet Earth is always out front with new items and ideas. You can get these new cards at Stitch Stash https://stitch-stash.com/collections/milan-cards?customer_posted=true#feedback-bar–newsletter

Hannelore Brown – the owner of Hedgehog Needlepoint has been busy – she has 2 new lines that she just announced. She has golf putter covers to go with her collegiate series AND she also just released ski resort and hiking passes to stitch. Great small projects that cover many gift bases !! https://hedgehogneedlepoint.com/collections/ski-hike-pass-collection

Penny Linn is also out with 2 new items !! You can now stitch your state in either your state flower or Madras Plaid. Really quite interesting to scroll thru them all – what a great xmas ornament. https://pennylinn.com/search?q=state&page=2

I find so many needle pointers are also readers. Wool and Willow Needlepoint has exclusive rights to book covers from famous books. They are small – 3.25″ x 4.25″ design on 18 mesh needlepoint canvas. Another good xmas gift ! https://www.woolandwillow.com/collections/wool-willow-exclusives?page=3&phcursor=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzayI6InByb2R1Y3RfdGl0bGUiLCJzdiI6IktleWJvYXJkIEZ1biIsImQiOiJmIiwidWlkIjozODQ2MzE1MjQ1NTk1OSwibCI6MjAsIm8iOjAsInIiOiJDRFAiLCJ2IjoxLCJwIjozfQ.4UIZht8xPCPl_NDrdlTrVGgMEvNO_EZ5h4Qsa7PVzXg

Morgan Julia Designs has released her new bar cart – just in time for the retreat she is doing with Penny Linn this weekend on Nantucket. It’s called The Summer By The Sea bar cart. The box has so many great things – from the cute carry all to the needle minder, seam ripper and more. https://morganjuliadesigns.myflodesk.com/sv8nz4etlv?_kx=rV4MBEfWGkwURglkyUXCLopGavY2DCJQzP6Y94aO8T4.RWeQns

I know that I have always admired those quirky frames by the company with the even quirkier name – Deux Bijoux Bijoux. They are so colorful and whimsical. They compliment many pieces to a tee. You can spot them a mile away. One of our favorite stores in NY – Stitch By Stitch now has these frames in standard sizes and they are (the magic words!) Self Finishing !! They will order on an individual basis so you need to call the store to be sure you get the one you want in the color and size you need. Check out their Halloween sale while you looking at their web site !! Dangerous store ! 914 834 1886 https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/collections/whats-new-2025

Who were those Famous Stitchers? That is Cathy Rapoza and her daughter Stephanie Ruetz. Cathy gave up ownership of Alice Peterson Co. to her daughter in 2024. Alice Peterson Co was founded in 1974 and their designs are always fabulous. From their beautiful hand painted canvases to the Stitch and Zip’s they never disappoint. https://alicepetersoncompany.com/

This coming week is our July meeting – already ! With vacations and holidays we are going to have a calm “stitch in” this time. Jacqui C. will also discuss what threads are needed for the “Sea Jelly”. Come relax and stitch with us !

ANG has introduced the new Quarterly Stitch. At first glance I thought this was a quick easy small project – then I read about it ! It’s called “Ottoman Triad II” and was designed by Denise Beusen. It was inspired by embroideries of the Ottoman Empire. Have you ever done a “Bukhara” stitch? How about the “Atma” stitch or the “Turkish triangular stitch”? It does say this project is for advanced intermediate stitchers. Makes you want to look up the project and see what an “Atma” stitch is !! They say it can be finished as a box top or framed. It’s on the ANG web site to look at now – go check it out – I did !! LOL

If you live in the NY Metro area – get excited !! Morgan Julia Designs is going to do a “Pop Up” store in SoHo NYC. She is renting out a whole store for 3 days at 188 Lafayette St. on October 3-5 (Fri thru Sun). She will be launching a brand new collection of canvases. These will be exclusive to the pop up except for one. That one will be put up online as not everyone can get to NYC. No ticket is necessary, just come on down. She is putting up sneak peaks on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/18357987586156934/?_kx=rV4MBEfWGkwURglkyUXCLopGavY2DCJQzP6Y94aO8T4.RWeQns

She is also going to need one of her – Chill Pills when it’s finished.

Want to buy a Needlepoint Store?? Patti Hoffman of Stitch Stash owns 2 stores and they are quite a distance apart. She has been running between Rehoboth Beach and Darien Ct and she just can’t keep doing the commute so she is selling her Darien CT store. If you are seriously interested she asked that you don’t contact the stores. Contact her personally  at 302-569-0063 or Stitch-Stash@hotmail.com

Knit One Needlepoint Too is on the move – but not far. (Right next door!) If your in or near Monticello NY go check out their new location. The new store is a bigger and better location.
Over 2000 square feet of high ceilings, huge windows and great lighting to bring you yarn, needlepoint, beads, jewelry, books, totes, notions and tools. Their new address is 364 East Broadway in Monticello and they are open Thurs thru Mon. Looking forward to seeing pictures on Instagram and FaceBook when they get a breath !! https://www.needlepointtoo.com/

A little closer to us – The Edwardian Needle is having a Trunk Show of Lee products. There are all sorts of self finishing items from leather bags to gift boxes, jewelry boxes, wallets, ornaments, cosmetic bags and much more. There are also piles of canvases that fit the items. Check out the Lee site for ideas of their well made items then go to the store for a bargain. https://colonialneedle.com/collections/lee-self-finishing-goods

Vacation Alert – The Edwardian will be closed for their annual vacation the last 2 weeks of August. Plan ahead for what you may need while they are closed.

Looking for something new and different to stitch – yet quick ?!?!? Rittenhouse Needlepoint has padded hangers to stitch. Oz Needle and Thread is the designer and they have a big selection to choose from including areas to put a monogram. What a great gift idea for a special occasion. https://www.ozneedleandthread.com/ Rittenhouse can do the finishing as well. https://rittenhouseneedlepoint.com/products/oz-needle-and-thread-california-poppies-needlepoint-hanger-canvas?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email&_kx=QNbnum1iUEN5weUC3DuK75aOlVx0Dud-BR0a603hRFw.TU8N4e

Whether your Italian or just enjoy Italian food you want to go look at the new canvases by Stitch Rock. All you need for a good dinner including a refreshing drink !! They always have great small canvases, many come kitted – or not and a great beginner selection. Worth a look !! https://stitchrockdesigns.com/

Penny Linn gave a sneak peak of a new designer, Kaitlin Lane Designs. Her canvases are playing cards based on the play Wicked. She says there is lot’s more to come soon ! https://pennylinn.com/collections/new-all?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=7%2F1%20Kaitlin%20Lane%20Wicked%20Cards&_kx=95-hSwAYM_w1abxIXjXQMDX2ZPJpMD1KDiXnRxmVLaI.RspkHP

A favorite store in our area – Stitch By Stitch in NY has a couple of neat new items. Round self finishing magnets by Planet Earth and Rachel Donley has a new 2 sided handbag. You can look thru this web site for hours! Dangerous !! https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/collections/whats-new-2025

Tips and Tricks: I never know when to add an extra row or two for finishing. According to KC Needlepoint, it can give the finisher a problem depending on what it is being finished. Call where you are having an item finished to be sure but a quick guide is:

Who was that Famous Stitcher? This is Madeleine Harwell – the creative woman behind Madeleine Elisabeth Needlepoint. She has an art degree from Florida State University. Her mother worked in a knitting/needlepoint store and she helped out starting at the age of 9. By the age of 14 she got some help from another woman in the business and was showing her own canvas designs in the 2018 Orlando show. Everything just grew from there. https://www.facebook.com/madeleineelizabethneedlepoint/
