I hope everyone enjoyed the Sea Jelly we did in October. Mine is almost finished and is far prettier in person. I can’t wait to have it finished now. This month is Toni Gerdes’s lecture on the Rhodes Stitch – don’t miss it! She does a very interesting talk about this stitch and there are small designs you can do with stash. An excellent designer and teacher. Try to take a class with her, you will be glad you did.

It’s back again – December somehow crept up on us all again. I am still shaking my head that I just ordered the Thanksgiving meal. Well, that means 3 things. 1. a needlepoint Bingo game and stitching for the last meeting this year. 2. I will be collecting dues again soon! 3. The Holiday Party !! Make sure you reserve your seat for the holiday party as it is limited seating. You got an email from Cathryn C. detailing the date, cost and this years menu. Always a fun afternoon and a wonderful get together. So interesting to see what people have stitched and bring for everyone to see. Hope to see many of you there (yes I have my seat already!).

Your ANG membership ends on December 31 but they have opened up the ability to renew now. They also have options to choose from. You can do 1 or 2 years and you can opt for the magazine only online to save a few dollars. By doing it now you will not have to think about it during the holidays.

Congratulations to the 2 new officers, Shirley Chin and Howard Lange. Both long time members that will do great things in their new positions.

Spring Fling is now open and classes are filling! These are all favorite classes from past seminars now being taught virtually starting in April 2026. There are quite a few to pick from and so many great instructors that we all have either taken a class with or wanted to. You have until November 26th to sign up but don’t wait to long – I know the class I am taking is down to the last 5 or less seats.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the new Quarterly Stitch. You can download the pattern. It’s called SUNwear by Ellen Emanuel. What a cute quick stitch. It is meant to be a bracelet but I can see it as a book mark or other uses. The directions say it’s for any level of stitching and it gives a complete guide along with finishing. An easy project for someone that wants to learn.

Colour Compliments is again shipping to America. She is eating the additional cost for duties at least for now. Some of her stock though has risen in price significantly. She is trying to keep any price increases low for the time being. Watch for new color combinations she is devising along with a collaboration. Tough being a small business. The end of this month is Small Business Saturday – a good time to show your support for all our LNS and specialty online stores. https://colourcomplements.com/product-category/custom-thread-kits?utm_source=Colour+Complements+News+%26+Updates&utm_campaign=486e50efd0-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2025_11_03_07_45&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-486e50efd0-285058737&mc_cid=486e50efd0&mc_eid=a82e51f2f8

Interesting new thread !! Leave it to Ruth Schmuff – so innovative. She is creating overdyed Floche and calling it “Color Dreams Floche” She now has 47 colors in skeins of 28 yards all 100% cotton that she is selling on her web site. Looking at the picture, you just want to touch the threads. https://bedeckedandbeadazzled.com/threads/color-dreams/floche-color-dreams/

The Needlepoint Clubhouse in St. Louis Missouri has a program called “Charts for Charity”. They have 3 different charities on their web site. You make a donation to the charity by purchasing a downloadable chart. There is also a guide for each design which is emailed. A nice way to make a donation and get a lovely chart. Go to the web site and read about each charity. https://www.needlepointclubhouse.com/search?type=product%2Carticle%2Cpage%2Ccollection&q=charts%20for%20charity*

Good Point Needlepoint in CT also has a way of giving back – they are having a Black Friday sale. To get into the sale early and get free shipping you make a donation to a local food bank or No Kid Hungry thru November 23rd. Email proof of your donation to hello@goodpointneedlepoint.com and they will send you a code that you can start to use on 11/25/25 for the sale. The sale will be site wide ! Could be a great deal !! https://goodpointneedlepoint.com/

A new club from The Needlepointer – “Mini Baubles” designed by Amber Yan. This 12 month club gives you a canvas, thread pack and guide each month. It is expected to begin in either January or February. Great item for a new stitcher that is looking to try new stitches and threads. https://theneedlepointer.com/products/mini-baubles-div-id-club_subtitle-open-enrollment-div?se_activity_id=167943241970&syclid=d47qvlo6g2cs738bq620&utm_campaign=Add%20Festive%20Sparkle%20with%20Mini%20Baubles!_167943241970&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email&selling_plan=6057001202&variant=47956317372658

Do you have “SOS” ?? Shiny Object Syndrome – I know I do !!! I recently got a new email from Stitch By Stitch in NY. That dangerous store was showing more canvases and fun items from the Fall Market. They say on their web site that they have put on 1100 – so far !! From self finishing Bermuda bags to games that roll up to holiday items… the list goes on and on. I can’t imagine what they will have when they more to a bigger store at the end of the year ! Take some time and look thru all the new things and maybe they will not be as shiny any longer – though I doubt it ! It’s fun to look anyway. https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/collections/2025-autumn-needlepoint-reunion

Tips & Tricks: Being organized is the best way to stitch a project and enjoy doing it !!! If everything your working with is a mess – it will become a disaster. Who ever invented the Floss A Way bags was genius and the ring to keep them all together is the cherry on the cake. Never stitch without them.

Who was that Famous Stitcher? That is Jill Rigoli the founder of Danji Designs in 1970. The name Danji is a combo of her husband Dan and Jill. In the early 2000’s her daughter Rachel took over the business which was then sold to Janice Doxey who owns it today. Much of what you think of when you hear the name is the art work of Laurel Burch. Jill was able to convince her that she could do her art justice in needlepoint and she allowed her to replicate many of the pieces. https://www.danjidesigns.com/

It’s almost that day – stitch a little between the chaos !

Are you ready to stitch the Sea Jelly ???? I have been waiting for months !! LOL. Jacqui C. asked that you stitch the circle (it went really fast !) This is a cute project that is going to stitch up quickly. Next month is a “Must See” – we are going to have a fabulous designer, Toni Gerdes. She is going to do a talk on the Rhodes Stitch. Having heard it before she does a wonderful job – don’t miss it ! I had computer problems which is why this is a week off BUT, so much happened in that time you will have extra to read!

It’s that time of year again ! Time for all the shops and designers to get together so that we all have lots of new projects and gadgets to buy !! Also known as the Autumn Needlepoint Reunion which is held Oct. 17-19 in Frisco TX. You should be seeing some peaks of the new items coming out but if not – here are a few:

Interesting New Book out ! – “Make It Yours Book 2 Extraordinary Fonts” – this is an exclusive to The Wool and The Floss. This is a sequel to Krissy Johnson’s “Make It Yours Book 1 The Essentials”. There is more than just fonts in this book. The best way to understand some great uses for it is to – go to the video!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm2H4xpV3oM The heart template she uses in the video is also available thru the Wool and The Floss. https://woolfloss.com/collections/tools-of-the-trade/products/square-rectangle-templates-copy

I have not heard anything good about Straw Silk coming back soon. People are stripping stores of it as it is not in production right now. A great fiber to stitch with but we are all going to need a substitute. Who knew Straw Silk had a “Sister Fiber!” It’s called Soie Tissee (pronounced swah t-say).  The designer of this thread has worked to perfect a signature dyeing technique that allows a beautiful graduation of hues on each strand. They have added nearly 60 colors to the line – lot’s of choices !! https://silkroadfiber.com/straw-silk-fiber/

NEW THREAD ALERT ! Radiance 13 has been released. This adds to the 18 and Mini already on shelves. There is 102 colors to choose from and you can also get bags of special editions with 6 spools in a bag. I have heard some people say that this unravels so it’s hard to work with. According to M’s Canvas house you need to put some Bee’s wax on the end and it should be fine. Worth a try as it is so pretty stitched. Check it out at your LNS or M’s Canvas house. https://www.mscanvashouse.com/

There is Good News and Bad News ! The Bad News first – Stitch Stash Darien CT has closed it’s store. It was just to much for Patty going back and forth from DE to CT. Now for the GOOD News !!! Morgan Julia Designs is opening up a “brick and mortar” store in Jersey City NJ !! She had a very successful “Pop Up” in Manhattan this past weekend with close to 1500 people stopping by. Stay tuned for more information !

If that good news was not enough – THERE IS MORE !! One of our favorite stores in this area Stitch By Stich in NY is moving to bigger quarters. They just celebrated 21 years in business and decided to give themselves AND US a treat by moving to a space almost double what their store is now. They are going to have more thread lines and lots more space for classes, workshops, pop up’s….. They are staying within Larchmont NY and expect to welcome everyone to the new space mid January 2026. Can’t wait to visit !!! https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooH6_X6wJCDBrOoWraDtc2co2C_Yr_6w_z-KYpYT5MboZbMw3ep

Do you have/Are you a Taylor Swift fan??? Atlantic Blue now has several of her costumes you can stitch. They also have stitch guides AND matching sparkle material for finishing !! They NEED BEADS !!! https://www.atlanticbluecanvas.com/search?options%5Bfields%5D=title%2Cvendor%2Cproduct_type%2Cvariants.title&options%5Bprefix%5D=last&options%5Bunavailable_products%5D=last&page=1&q=taylor+swift

Jump Seat Therapy has some new items – great for quick gifts and for new stitchers ! The book marks are wonderful for readers of all ages and they give a discount for bundles ! Small enough to have them done for the holidays (great as a gift for a stitcher as well). https://www.jumpseattherapy.shop/?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email&_kx=PuRAeW7JsUy1qwy0i8_aQiL-0c9dpZmjqZOJxqhXaYs.V9JXWx

DMC thread has a great offer going – “The Craft Corner Bundle”. Everything in this picture including 2 project bags, all the threads, boxes trays for separation, bobbins and stickers with the numbers. Go to the web site and watch the video – yes it comes with all of that !! https://quilt-public-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/public_images/7fa4e5aa222c79e4716bf0df709035bf

Hannah Bass has some interesting canvases and they are usually sold as a kit. She has come out with a funky looking new one – it may not be for everyone but it certainly will keep you busy. Check out her web site – she has some out of the box items. If your a dog lover you will see her dogs in various pictures! https://hannahbass.com/collections/needlepoint-kits/other

It’s That Time Of Year Again! KC Needlepoint is calling on all stitchers to “Stitch & Make a Difference. The Greater Kansas City Needlepoint Guild has been working with KC Needlepoint since 2015. Hearts stitched from all over are used on the doors of recently passed residents so people passing by will give the family the time they need. The Hearts for Hospice program gives the mourning family the heart that was placed on the door as a remembrance. If you would like to stitch a heart for the program KC Needlepoint will finish it and make sure the program receives it. They also sell canvas in which you can stitch a heart. https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/products/hearts-for-hospice-canvas?_pos=1&_psq=hearts+for+hospice+&_ss=e&_v=1.0&omnisendContactID=61fc368aa1816e00226a532d&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+Hearts+for+hospice+%2868b5e85e48babc772d1c8a0f%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

There are 2 new clubs out there !! The Needlepointer is doing “Vivid Jellyfish”. This is one canvas measuring 12 x 12. This is a 6 month club and each month you get a thread pack and stitch guide. They expect this to start about Jan/Feb. Something a little different. https://www.theneedlepointer.com/vivid-jellyfish-first-month-150-div-idclubsubtitleopen-enrollmentdiv/p8516113?cse=nl092725&goal=0_3621358244-220acab384-69343533&mc_cid=220acab384&mc_eid=2e6039e84f

The second club is completely different !!! This one is thru Ruth Schmuff – Bedecked and Bedazzled. This one is a bit different from most of her canvases – Moderne Autumn. With a stained glass background and rich colors I am sure Ruth will do some fabulous things to this. The class is all on zoom from November 28 – 30 https://bedeckedandbeadazzled.com/product/modern-autumn/

Tips & Tricks: I have used the self finishing products out there and they are great but you definitely could use a little help at times getting your canvas in. KC Needlepoint has a tool to help (though it looks like something my manicurist uses!) The pointed end helps create the gap so you can get your canvas in. The flat end helps smooth out and straighten the canvas so it sits nicely in the item. It’s inexpensive and worth the price to help with the struggle. https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/collections/self-finishing-accessories/products/self-finishing-leather-tool

Who was that Famous Stitcher? That is Susan Portra. Both Susan and Tony Minieri were the first ones to write stitch guides for canvas work. She resides in CA and teaches classes at her local store.

Seminar is over and everyone is back so this month’s meeting on Wed is all about seminar and how it was. Next year is Denver so I am sure we will hear inside information about what is coming. Jacqui C is also going to talk to us about the Sea Jelly that will be the October meeting’s project. Should be interesting to hear about both.

The summer ANG Auction is back and ends tomorrow so hurry and check out all the donations and have fun bidding on all kinds of items. From Books to canvases to partially stitched items to charts and way more. https://ang.schoolauction.net/2025summer/signup

The new Needlepointers Magazine is out for Sept/Oct and as usual it doesn’t disappoint. So many interesting things to read about. Wait till you see the Tale of Three Stitchers – the faces of the cardinals are all great ! The cover has 3 pumpkins and the stems on them are a work of art. I also want to read the article about lights not to mention the New Orleans store. You need some quiet time to sit and read as it is packed with great stuff. Of course if you can’t wait you can view it online and you got an email with a link right to it – easy peasy !

On a sad note – Michele Roberts passed away last month. You know her from the red and gold hearts offered in the correspondence courses. She was a well known icon in the needlepoint industry with an expertise in silk and gold techniques. To honor her and with the coordination of her family you can still sign up for her heart designs thru the correspondence course area even though it’s being redesigned.

I am sure many of us have experienced problems getting supplies. It’s not going to get any better according to at least 2 vendors. With the tariffs now applying to all dollar amounts, no more exemptions for under $800 – Color Complements is temporarily suspending shipments into the US. Since all tariffs must be prepaid by the shipper she has to research the best way to do this. https://colourcomplements.com/ On top of that S&J (you know their beads on the white cards) also deals in ribbons and Berwick-Offray, who she has been buying from for 4 decades, has closed all their US factories. She now has to source new vendors. She says she has some stock left so get it while you can. https://sj-designs.net/shop/sj-designs-ribbons/116-satin-ribbon/

Let’s talk about some happier things !! I loved the people that Moore stitching had introduced and Ina Garten is done and framed, sitting right next to her cook books ! Well, they came out with several new canvases – check out Carrie (from Sex in the City), Dolly and Lucy among others. Just too cute. Mine was a lot of fun to stitch. (I hope Ina Garten agrees!) (Thanks Jen for the buttons) https://moorestitching.com/collections/new-arrivals

Do you know someone that wants to learn to stitch? (I just had someone ask me!) Let’s face it, we want to encourage younger people to enjoy our hobby to carry it on and not let it die. The person that came to me is in their 30’s so she would have no interest in stitching a frog or a cat. However – KC Needlepoint has 21 kits for a more adult beginner. Everything you need to start is in the kit. The canvases have big spaces to practice a stitch. The koi fish are beautiful and so is the cocktail. They include very nice thread so as to make it a good experience. Keep it in mind in case you too get asked ! https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/collections/the-beginner-kit?omnisendContactID=61fc368aa1816e00226a532d&sort_by=created-descending&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+New+Beginner+Kits+%2868adcc69269cfa00340d481b%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

WOW – I can’t believe the leaves are turning and falling but that just puts you in the mood for fall and fall stitching. Stitch Rock has some of the cutest Halloween/Fall canvases but if you are a dog lover then their new line of “Howl-oween” canvases may be for you. The faces on the dogs are just what you see at home! https://stitchrockdesigns.com/collections/autumn-halloween

I am sure you have heard about the pop up that Morgan Julia Designs is having in October in NYC. She has been dropping hints of what will be there. Looks like she had thread palettes made to go with canvases! To get more information and or to tell her your coming (as there are special gifts) use the link to help her know how many are coming. https://morganjuliadesigns.com/pages/mjd-in-nyc?_kx=rV4MBEfWGkwURglkyUXCLopGavY2DCJQzP6Y94aO8T4.RWeQns

A new store just opened !! Sunny Stitches in Denver CO https://www.instagram.com/sunnystitches.denver/ and they had a guest at their opening – Hedgehog Needlepoint owner Hannelore Brown. She brought with her a new Retro Travel Tag and matching needleminder. Something to think about if you go to the next seminar !! Check out her new University Key Fobs – good gift for a new student. https://hedgehogneedlepoint.com/

If you haven’t heard of Suzie Vallerie by now I am sure you will shortly. She is the owner of Enriched Stitch in CT since 2012 and she has been a very busy lady since then. She has bought the Amanda Lawford line of needlepoint, created her own line (VNG) where she represents several artists, recently bought Caron Threads (now known as Enriched Threads), AND, has now bought “Needlepoint in Paradise” in Naples Fl. Wishing her success as she spreads out beyond the Tri State Area. https://enrichedstitch.com/ https://www.needlepointinparadise.com/

Atlantic Blue has a new line of canvases – very sweet looking Birth Flowers. Each flower matches to the month and in such soft colors. They also have an extra you can buy – an embossed golden plate charm to attach. Nice as a gift! https://www.atlanticbluecanvas.com/collections/birth-flowers

Needle Point .com has a new Interiors Collection. The designers you all know – Vernon Kirk of Kirk & Bradley and Don Lynch of Two Sisters. To look at the canvases, they are nice but to see them stitched and finished brings them to a different level. Everyone wants a room that looks like these do. I think the appeal of them is the simplicity and the single color. They look so relaxing. https://needlepoint.com/collections/interiors-collection?_kx=SpNrwJYeSg8JHGV3vDRNkpeUD67Ddf2hdz1HBTATTO0.TxAVmM&utm_campaign=2025_09_03+Interiors+Collection&utm_klaviyo_id=01EY735XHE675Z0Z1C4Z7SB8DK&utm_medium=campaign&utm_source=Klaviyo

Tips & Tricks: Ugh – are you a tight stitcher? (I know I am) Trying to pull the tail of the thread thru a few stitches on the back of the canvas can be tough. Try using a needle Grabber to give you the needed grip to get that needle thru. They actually come in a few versions. Some people like to use a tweezer, there are also pink grips for the end of your fingers or small round pieces of rubber. The next time you need to give blood ask for the tourniquet they used. They can’t reuse them and throw them away but to take that and cut it into smaller segments works great. My favorite is an old fashioned rubber finger with the top cut off ! Whatever works for you.

Who was that Famous Stitcher? Yes – that was a younger picture of Tony Minieri the needlework designer and teacher that is also one of “The Squad”. (Along with Suzanne Howren and Meredith Willett). He has many certifications and can create the most complicated stitches that turn out to be beautiful designs. Recently he has had several health issues and we wish him a quick recovery so he can get back to teaching and traveling.

How fast was that – it’s seminar time in NOLA !! Melita has been blogging about her experiences and hopefully she has gotten some sleep (those partying in the streets can be heard on the upper floors!). She showed us what she got in her welcome bag – very nice. But, the exciting part is the awards she won ! At the welcome Banquet she was given the “Creative Inspiration Award” for her “Flowers Along A Rhode” AND she won a 2nd Place Ribbon as an original design-Professional. She is right – what an honor !!! Hope everyone else is enjoying the seminar – a wonderful thing to do if you have never gone. I had the best time when I went and there is so much to do and see.

Our Linda M. reminded us – EARLY – that Woodlawn will be here before you know it. Thank you Linda for lighting that fire to finish our WIP’s !!

Are you hurrying to get items in for finishing this year?? Don’t !! Unless you are doing it yourself or you know your LNS can get it finished in time – most of the major stores are all putting out notices that they can no longer take in anything for finishing this year. This just says that our hobby has become so popular we either have to stitch faster or a year in advance ! (I am stitching as fast as I can!)

NEW – NEW – NEW – NEW Check out Penny Linn – just when you think she has it all – she has new acrylic boxes that have a scalloped edge ! So Pretty !! She also has a scalloped frame. Easier to see on her web site OR there can always be a road trip to the store !!! I’m just saying.. https://pennylinn.com/collections/acrylic?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=8%2F22%20New%20Acrylic&_kx=95-hSwAYM_w1abxIXjXQMDX2ZPJpMD1KDiXnRxmVLaI.RspkHP

Also NEW – Treenway Silk Ribbons has a bunch of new colors. The last time they added new solid colors to their line was 2022. They only add colors when they have multiple requests. By the end of 2025 they expect to have even more – stay tuned. Wow – I just read they have been in business for 48 years – staying power! Great product, it’s no wonder. https://www.treenwaysilks.com/productlist.php?category=1

Something else – soon to be new – Coco Frank is going to give birth in September ! As of now any order placed will not be shipped until early October. Her newest canvas is an adorable rocking horse – bet there will be more cute baby canvases to come ! https://cocofrankstudio.com/products/rocking-horse

There is a new club at the Needlepointer – Peppermint Candies – in lots of colors ! It doesn’t start until Dec/Jan and includes the canvas, stitch guide and thread. It’s a 12 month club and when your finished you will have mastered 12 different stitches, one for each candy. https://www.theneedlepointer.com/candies-peppermintsdiv-idclubsubtitleopen-enrollmentdiv/p8516094?cse=nl081625&goal=0_3621358244-bdbe38c6e2-69343533&mc_cid=bdbe38c6e2&mc_eid=2e6039e84f

Also NEW – Morgan Julia Designs had such success with her Nutcracker last year she designed one for every month and a few extra ! These are small quick stitches and are sold individually kitted with Milan thread on cards or with no thread. The collection is a collaboration with Greystone Needlepoint. https://morganjuliadesigns.com/collections/nutcrackers?_kx=rV4MBEfWGkwURglkyUXCLopGavY2DCJQzP6Y94aO8T4.RWeQns

Now for some not so good news ! One of our favorite designs, Kathy Rees, has announced that due to rising costs she has to raise the price of her kits starting Sept 1. Depending on the kit the increase could be as high as 15%. If you were on the fence, now is the time to buy. So not everything is bad news – she is also having a sale on 2 Christmas patterns. She has so many great patterns check out her web site and take advantage. https://needledelights.com/

I just read about SJ Designs (those little round containers with the white paper in the middle containing all sizes and colors of beads). Apparently there have been many upheavals in the industry. First Swarovski stopped supplying the craft industry. Preciosa took over and now – they have discontinued over 90% of their pearl bead colors. SJ Designs has decided to replace their entire line of Glass Pearls with stock from a different factory. This will result in more colors and more consistent dye lots. If you are doing a large project make sure you have enough of what you need. https://sj-designs.net/shop/

The current President of our guild found something very interesting – Stitching Cards. Such a simple way to make a hand stitched greeting card. All the instructions are on the web site and with the down load. You print the pattern on card stock and they give you how to do the stitches to make the patterns. This company covers all varieties of occasions and age groups. Some thread and something to punch the hole and your off !! The more advanced have Jean Hilton stitches ! Some also have beads – LOL! Check it out on their web site – a neat gift ! Thank you Noelle! https://www.stitchingcards.com/info/tutorials/how-to-make-stitching-cards/

Even though one of the nicest LNS’s is on vacation (and deservedly !) Stitch By Stich in NY will be closed from now thru Sept 1 – BUT – that didn’t stop them from showing off lots of new releases and sneak peaks coming in the Autumn Needlepoint Reunion this October (Yes- Already!) From bag charms to new Mah Jong bag designs, snow globes, cosmetic bags and way more. Time to take a break, get a glass of a favorite beverage and wander thru their web site. https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/collections/whats-new-2025

Tips and Tricks: Missed a stitch? You think so but can’t find it?? Get a “Domed Magnifier” aka a Bug Eye. I have had one for years BUT KC Needlepoint now has 2 sizes ! A 3 inch – for larger projects and a 2 inch for smaller canvases. Not that I am suggesting your missing stitches mind you – it’s a good way to check before you have something framed or finished so as not to find a missing stich after it’s too late. https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/blogs/news/missed-a-stitch-weve-got-you-covered?omnisendContactID=61fc368aa1816e00226a532d&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+Domes+%2868842f0ee966661261b4484f%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

Who was that Famous Stitcher? That is Melissa MacLeod – the owner of the Wool and the Floss in MI. She has been stitching since the age of 7. She learned in the same shop she eventually taught in and then bought in 2017. If you have never watched an “Unboxing Party” (born out of COVID) you are missing a fun event. She does them once a week and the finishing she shows along with new items for the store will definitely keep your attention. Very creative store ! https://woolfloss.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoo5B64x1BaZRIVYYWmL92xsJEXne9L2i56e4MMIP2-ImGBnMY9W

Everyone should have a great time at seminar in “NOLA”. From looking at the booklet of class choices – a tough choice. There are so many great classes to take with so many wonderful teachers. This month we will not be having a meeting. Our normal meeting date occurs at the same time that the ANG seminar is happening. Meeting or no meeting NJNA is still running the Auction of donated canvases. Put in your bid before it’s too late !! We will see who the lucky winners are in the September meeting.

If you have not heard or read Face Book, one of our greatest teachers and friend of the Edwardian Needle shop – Tony Minieri is having health issues again. Both he and Luis ask for privacy at this time so he can concentrate on getting better. His remaining 2025 classes have to be rescheduled to next year and any stitch guides he has contracted to do will also have to wait until he is feeling much better. Best of luck with the up coming surgeries. Rest and recuperate should be the main goal. Update- there was a cancelation and he had the 1st surgery early – everything went well. Luis said the doctor even stitched him with a couple of oblique stitches !!

We are heading for the stride of summer and even though it’s been blazing hot at times let’s hold on for another month or 2 or 3…. Coco Frank and Inslee Fariss have put out a summer collection that makes you want to relax. The colors are soft and they included bugs, butterflies, shells and more. I loved the fish and shells but the butterflies are also very pretty. You decide: https://cocofrankstudio.com/collections/coco-frank-x-inslee-fariss?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=Coco+Frank+x+Inslee+Fariss+Summer+Collection+Launch&utm_id=01K1CFZDQJNRK6SM3YAFV36RMS&_kx=AMZQYComXLrlPiMuvFdjhoml8t5fg3L7XzLWnq3B7hE.XYMb7E

I tempted myself by looking at one of the nicest stores in our area – Stitch By Stitch in NY (a dangerous place to shop!) They did not disappoint. Even though they already have many fall items they have some great things for summer. Try one of several Boat Totes on different subjects or the newest cups from Rachel Donley. Then Elizabeth Crane Swartz put out the inevitable frog ! Of course you can sit with a beverage and kill a couple of hours looking at their site for even more summer fun !! https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/collections/whats-new-2025

The Needlepointer has a new club of all Sea Creatures. Small and quick but oh so cute. There are 10 canvases and they come with stitch guide and thread. The club will not start until December so you can have summer all winter long. https://www.theneedlepointer.com/sea-creaturesdiv-idclubsubtitleopen-enrollmentdiv/p8516068?cse=nl080225&goal=0_3621358244-943772ea07-69343533&mc_cid=943772ea07&mc_eid=2e6039e84f

Another new club is one of those things many of us can’t resist – needle minders ! Morgan Julia just announced a limited edition needle minder club. You get one each month but you can’t buy them unless your in the club. They will not be restocked. The designs are done in a series over 4 months. The first series will be Fair Ground Favorites. You can cancel any time. You need to sign up by Aug 15th to receive the 1st one and they will ship about Sept 10th. https://morganjuliadesigns.com/products/needle-minder-club?_kx=rV4MBEfWGkwURglkyUXCLopGavY2DCJQzP6Y94aO8T4.RWeQns

Have you done a vacation travel round to remember a great time? Another way to finish it is in a Sudberry self finishing Octagon Box. Yes, they have them to fit the 4 inch travel rounds you get from Kirk & Bradley or Silver Needle. The box itself is six inches round and has a mirror inside. A nice gift for a fellow traveler ! https://www.sudberry.com/catalog/octagon.htm

It is great to stitch outside in the nice summer weather but you need a bag to bring it all with you !! Rittenhouse Needlepoint has some very interesting bags from a company in Australia. The bags are made of recycled plastic bottles and have the most colorful patterns. They say they are generous in size, water resistant and strong. Look at their web site as they have various sizes and patterns to pick from. https://rittenhouseneedlepoint.com/collections/new-arrivals-back-in-stock

Debbie’s Designs has released the last of her “Year of Color” series and they both remind me of ice cream colors. Both are now available but Summer Delights has a delay of getting threads. You can still order it but for now it only comes as a pdf download. Visit her site and store – lot’s to look at !! https://debbeesdesigns.com/store/

Thread Advisory: I read an email from Stitch Stash and other shops that Straw Silk thread is having a problem getting stock. The distributor doesn’t know when they can restock this lovely thread. It comes in 108 colors and if you like using it you may want to snag what you can at your LNS. https://stitch-stash.com/collections/silk-straw

Since we all know that Fall is inevitable – Stitch Stash has also announced that their big event, now in it’s 7th year, “25 Days of Needlepoint” has opened. A needlepoint themed advent calendar of 25 individually wrapped surprises. You open one each day from Dec1 thru Dec 25th. It is not Christmas themed however, just lots of needlepoint fun. The last one is a canvas and stitch guide. Choose between 13 and 18 mesh. https://stitch-stash.com/collections/25-days-of-needlepoint-signups

Fireside Stitchery has opened up their lottery for their First Frost Retreat. The cut off to enter is August 15th so you need to hurry. There are only 20 seats available. It’s held on October 12th from 9 to 4 PM. It includes lunch and refreshments, canvas, kit and class along with 20% off all the items they have to purchase. It’s being held at the Aronimink Clubhouse in Newtown Square PA. Good Luck getting a seat. https://firesidestitchery.com/products/retreat-lottery?se_activity_id=191308398891&syclid=d2bni83f2dis73fumnng&utm_campaign=Fireside+Stitchery%27s+First+Frost+Retreat_191308398891&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email

KC Needlepoint just announced a very cute “Almost Pumpkin Season” self finishing kit. Each one includes an adorable gingham pumpkin square on 13 mesh canvas, finishing materials and the acrylic box to put it in. https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/products/gingham-pumpkin-square-acrylic-box-kit?omnisendContactID=61fc368aa1816e00226a532d&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+Pumpkin+kit+%2868974208bb3f4d5925a440eb%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

If you want to take it that one step too far then go to Needlepoint .com for the cutest mini Nutcrackers by Kirk & Bradley. They are also double sided !! They are a needle point to go kit that includes canvas, stitch guide, thread and embellishments. https://needlepoint.com/collections/double-sided-nutcracker-ornament-kits?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=2025_07_31%20Double%20Sided%20Nutcrackers%2C%20London%20Storefronts&utm_klaviyo_id=01EY735XHE675Z0Z1C4Z7SB8DK&_kx=SpNrwJYeSg8JHGV3vDRNkpeUD67Ddf2hdz1HBTATTO0.TxAVmM

Tips & Tricks: Ellen Johnson of Serendipity Needle Point always has great tips. This one comes from her post about choosing threads for your project. She talks about different colors and textures and as we all know – these days there are more choices than ever. Here is her guide to finding the right size thread for the size canvas your stitching. https://serendipityneedleworksneedlepointdownloads.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/Threads_FunSheet.pdf?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=%F0%9F%98%89%F0%9F%A7%B5%20You%20don%20t%20need%20a%20PhD%20to%20choose%20beautiful%20threads&utm_campaign=%5BNeedleNotes%5D%20July%2020%2C%202025

Who was that Famous Stitcher?

This is Laura Rock, the founder of Stitch Rock Designs. She is from a family of stitchers so they have lots of pillows, ornaments, belts etc . She loved stitching but needed to be part of the creativity even more, so she started painting canvases in 2019 and has not stopped. https://stitchrockdesigns.com/

This months meeting was all about chatting and what is coming up and the best part was Noelle telling us about her being in the new issue of Needle Pointers magazine !! She again was one of the “Tale of Two Stitcher’s”. If you look at the original canvas you will see how she changed the perspective of the canvas. Instead of a more side view it is more straight on. She put in flowers where there were none, changed colors and created a spectacular piece. Patty W. did the other version and did a fine job also. That feature by Linda M. is one of the best parts of the magazine. Make sure you read it and look at all the wonderful ways a canvas can be done. Congrats. Noelle, you would have all our votes !!

Watch for a famous designer in a Tale of 2 Stitchers coming up.

We also had a quick chat about the up coming sea jelly and what is needed to stitch it. Our next workshop is still in the planning stages but it should be in March 2026 with a famous designer that many people voted for in the questionnaire. Keep an eye out for the final reveal ! The other important item is that with the seminar coming in August – there will be no August meeting. Wishing everyone going to “NOLA” a wonderful time.

As you know – ANG has had lots of Educational Offerings until now ! They are in the middle of revamping all their distance learning opportunities. They have not given a hint as to when we will see all these new projects and learning options so stay tuned !

If you have been stitching the Judyann Hearts Club you can get a jump on the threads needed for the next one. https://ang.informz.net/ang/data/images/2025%20Hearts%20Stitch%20Along%20Supplies%20List%20for%20Sept.pdf The stitch guide by Jinny Stapleton will appear in the Sept/Oct edition of Needle Pointers magazine. You can buy the canvas on the Judyann web site. Very cute small project. https://judyannneedlepoint.com/product/party-dress-heart-needlepoint-canvas/

Tips and Tricks: Speaking of seminar – I heard that the instructors have put in their letter to the students that they must bring “Cordless Flat Irons” for your threads. Unless you have a local beauty supply shop near you the easiest way to get one is – yup – you guessed it – Amazon. When you look for one double check that it is cordless. Many show up in the listings but are not actually cordless. Smaller is always better. They have various features such as different temperatures, locking handles, gauge of remaining battery life, etc. Go with the price your most comfy with and remember to get a silicone mat to place it on while it’s hot. You want smooth but not burnt Neon Rays !!

I just got a great new pair of scissors – a great item for seminar – by Victoria Whitson (thank you Joan). Not only are they very sharp but oh so comfy in your hand. If you have any kind of hand/finger disability these may be a good investment. The holes for your fingers are really big !!! They come in several colors – mine have iridescent finger holes – very stylish !! Try ’em – you’ll like ’em ! https://www.victoriawhitsonneedlepoint.com/shop-4

Looking for something new to do with your finished project ????? Morgan Julia Design had a great one !! Put a needlepoint hot dog on your ball cap and then go to a baseball game ! You will be the envy of the stadium. Of course she has the canvas but there are many other items to put on that ball cap with some imagination !!! https://morganjuliadesigns.com/search?q=hot+dog&options%5Bprefix%5D=last

Who doesn’t like Micky or Minnie ?? Well – you can stitch your own ears !!! Evergreen needlepoint has canvases so you can stitch your own set of ears and be the envy of this park as well !!! They have several choices of “stitch printed” canvases but if you want to be really different they also have a bundle you can buy that is a download. This gives you a template for 13 and 18 count canvas along with charts for 3 designs AND a resource for finishing ! What a great gift for a vacation !! https://www.evergreenneedlepoint.com/collections/mouse-ears-1?se_activity_id=162337259759&syclid=d1up4old220s73c7c250&utm_campaign=Mouse+Ears+are+Here%21_162337259759&utm_medium=email&utm_source=shopify_email

Have you heard of Sara Fitz? She is a multi talented woman that lives in Maine. She has painted the cutest “New England” items and has turned them into wall paper, pillows, trays, note paper…… and needlepoint kits ! She just came out today with some new designs. They go fast so you have to get them while they are in stock !! https://sarafitz.com/collections/needlepoint

Have you tried Milan yet??? I did recently and it is lovely. So soft and smooth. It’s a combo of Silk and Merino wool in a 30 yard skein and last I saw it came in 276 colors. Something new has been added !!!! 117 of those colors are now available in 10 yard cards for those smaller projects. Tilli Thomas Planet Earth is always out front with new items and ideas. You can get these new cards at Stitch Stash https://stitch-stash.com/collections/milan-cards?customer_posted=true#feedback-bar–newsletter

Hannelore Brown – the owner of Hedgehog Needlepoint has been busy – she has 2 new lines that she just announced. She has golf putter covers to go with her collegiate series AND she also just released ski resort and hiking passes to stitch. Great small projects that cover many gift bases !! https://hedgehogneedlepoint.com/collections/ski-hike-pass-collection

Penny Linn is also out with 2 new items !! You can now stitch your state in either your state flower or Madras Plaid. Really quite interesting to scroll thru them all – what a great xmas ornament. https://pennylinn.com/search?q=state&page=2

I find so many needle pointers are also readers. Wool and Willow Needlepoint has exclusive rights to book covers from famous books. They are small – 3.25″ x 4.25″ design on 18 mesh needlepoint canvas. Another good xmas gift ! https://www.woolandwillow.com/collections/wool-willow-exclusives?page=3&phcursor=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzayI6InByb2R1Y3RfdGl0bGUiLCJzdiI6IktleWJvYXJkIEZ1biIsImQiOiJmIiwidWlkIjozODQ2MzE1MjQ1NTk1OSwibCI6MjAsIm8iOjAsInIiOiJDRFAiLCJ2IjoxLCJwIjozfQ.4UIZht8xPCPl_NDrdlTrVGgMEvNO_EZ5h4Qsa7PVzXg

Morgan Julia Designs has released her new bar cart – just in time for the retreat she is doing with Penny Linn this weekend on Nantucket. It’s called The Summer By The Sea bar cart. The box has so many great things – from the cute carry all to the needle minder, seam ripper and more. https://morganjuliadesigns.myflodesk.com/sv8nz4etlv?_kx=rV4MBEfWGkwURglkyUXCLopGavY2DCJQzP6Y94aO8T4.RWeQns

I know that I have always admired those quirky frames by the company with the even quirkier name – Deux Bijoux Bijoux. They are so colorful and whimsical. They compliment many pieces to a tee. You can spot them a mile away. One of our favorite stores in NY – Stitch By Stitch now has these frames in standard sizes and they are (the magic words!) Self Finishing !! They will order on an individual basis so you need to call the store to be sure you get the one you want in the color and size you need. Check out their Halloween sale while you looking at their web site !! Dangerous store ! 914 834 1886 https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/collections/whats-new-2025

Who were those Famous Stitchers? That is Cathy Rapoza and her daughter Stephanie Ruetz. Cathy gave up ownership of Alice Peterson Co. to her daughter in 2024. Alice Peterson Co was founded in 1974 and their designs are always fabulous. From their beautiful hand painted canvases to the Stitch and Zip’s they never disappoint. https://alicepetersoncompany.com/

This coming week is our July meeting – already ! With vacations and holidays we are going to have a calm “stitch in” this time. Jacqui C. will also discuss what threads are needed for the “Sea Jelly”. Come relax and stitch with us !

ANG has introduced the new Quarterly Stitch. At first glance I thought this was a quick easy small project – then I read about it ! It’s called “Ottoman Triad II” and was designed by Denise Beusen. It was inspired by embroideries of the Ottoman Empire. Have you ever done a “Bukhara” stitch? How about the “Atma” stitch or the “Turkish triangular stitch”? It does say this project is for advanced intermediate stitchers. Makes you want to look up the project and see what an “Atma” stitch is !! They say it can be finished as a box top or framed. It’s on the ANG web site to look at now – go check it out – I did !! LOL

If you live in the NY Metro area – get excited !! Morgan Julia Designs is going to do a “Pop Up” store in SoHo NYC. She is renting out a whole store for 3 days at 188 Lafayette St. on October 3-5 (Fri thru Sun). She will be launching a brand new collection of canvases. These will be exclusive to the pop up except for one. That one will be put up online as not everyone can get to NYC. No ticket is necessary, just come on down. She is putting up sneak peaks on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/18357987586156934/?_kx=rV4MBEfWGkwURglkyUXCLopGavY2DCJQzP6Y94aO8T4.RWeQns

She is also going to need one of her – Chill Pills when it’s finished.

Want to buy a Needlepoint Store?? Patti Hoffman of Stitch Stash owns 2 stores and they are quite a distance apart. She has been running between Rehoboth Beach and Darien Ct and she just can’t keep doing the commute so she is selling her Darien CT store. If you are seriously interested she asked that you don’t contact the stores. Contact her personally  at 302-569-0063 or Stitch-Stash@hotmail.com

Knit One Needlepoint Too is on the move – but not far. (Right next door!) If your in or near Monticello NY go check out their new location. The new store is a bigger and better location.
Over 2000 square feet of high ceilings, huge windows and great lighting to bring you yarn, needlepoint, beads, jewelry, books, totes, notions and tools. Their new address is 364 East Broadway in Monticello and they are open Thurs thru Mon. Looking forward to seeing pictures on Instagram and FaceBook when they get a breath !! https://www.needlepointtoo.com/

A little closer to us – The Edwardian Needle is having a Trunk Show of Lee products. There are all sorts of self finishing items from leather bags to gift boxes, jewelry boxes, wallets, ornaments, cosmetic bags and much more. There are also piles of canvases that fit the items. Check out the Lee site for ideas of their well made items then go to the store for a bargain. https://colonialneedle.com/collections/lee-self-finishing-goods

Vacation Alert – The Edwardian will be closed for their annual vacation the last 2 weeks of August. Plan ahead for what you may need while they are closed.

Looking for something new and different to stitch – yet quick ?!?!? Rittenhouse Needlepoint has padded hangers to stitch. Oz Needle and Thread is the designer and they have a big selection to choose from including areas to put a monogram. What a great gift idea for a special occasion. https://www.ozneedleandthread.com/ Rittenhouse can do the finishing as well. https://rittenhouseneedlepoint.com/products/oz-needle-and-thread-california-poppies-needlepoint-hanger-canvas?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email&_kx=QNbnum1iUEN5weUC3DuK75aOlVx0Dud-BR0a603hRFw.TU8N4e

Whether your Italian or just enjoy Italian food you want to go look at the new canvases by Stitch Rock. All you need for a good dinner including a refreshing drink !! They always have great small canvases, many come kitted – or not and a great beginner selection. Worth a look !! https://stitchrockdesigns.com/

Penny Linn gave a sneak peak of a new designer, Kaitlin Lane Designs. Her canvases are playing cards based on the play Wicked. She says there is lot’s more to come soon ! https://pennylinn.com/collections/new-all?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=7%2F1%20Kaitlin%20Lane%20Wicked%20Cards&_kx=95-hSwAYM_w1abxIXjXQMDX2ZPJpMD1KDiXnRxmVLaI.RspkHP

A favorite store in our area – Stitch By Stitch in NY has a couple of neat new items. Round self finishing magnets by Planet Earth and Rachel Donley has a new 2 sided handbag. You can look thru this web site for hours! Dangerous !! https://stitchbystitchneedlepoint.com/collections/whats-new-2025

Tips and Tricks: I never know when to add an extra row or two for finishing. According to KC Needlepoint, it can give the finisher a problem depending on what it is being finished. Call where you are having an item finished to be sure but a quick guide is:

Who was that Famous Stitcher? This is Madeleine Harwell – the creative woman behind Madeleine Elisabeth Needlepoint. She has an art degree from Florida State University. Her mother worked in a knitting/needlepoint store and she helped out starting at the age of 9. By the age of 14 she got some help from another woman in the business and was showing her own canvas designs in the 2018 Orlando show. Everything just grew from there. https://www.facebook.com/madeleineelizabethneedlepoint/

Our last meeting was great !!! Jacqui C. did a fabulous presentation on different things to use in finishing your pieces. New and different ideas to say the least. We also were told about a lovely woman, Judith C. who decided she has WAY too much in her stash and donated some lovely canvases to our guild. Rosie put together a presentation of them and there will be an auction with the proceeds going to the guild for future programs and speakers. Of course, you have to be a member to bid on the pieces and we would love to have you as a member to enjoy so many great opportunities for learning and social get togethers. Check out our web site https://njneedleartists.org/ for more information. Here are the canvases up for auction: (tough choice-gotta love the flag !)

And the countdown begins – 21 days until this years seminar in “NOLA”. Hopefully you are one of the participants and are ready for a great time. So many classes to take and lots to see and do. It takes a “village” to do these seminars and even if you are not attending they have the Pelican frame weight you can order by mail, or if your in the area you can go see the exhibit, shop the Expo and bid in the silent auction not to mention, hang with friends. Hope everyone just enjoys their time together.

The new July/August Needle Pointers magazine is about to hit your mail box and the cover is perfect !!! Check it out online on the ANG web site – it is full of great articles as always. The effort into putting this magazine together shows every issue. I can’t wait to read about the article on threads and a new book out. They visited – West End Needlepoint for the shop hop. The Tale of Two Stitchers is all about flowers this time and as usual, Melita takes us back in time to forgotten treasures in the archives. What a great Bargello project they put in and the first thing I had to do was look closely at what beads they used for the lemons !!! LOL Of course there is more to read about in this issue – worth joining ANG just for the magazine !!

What do you know – Stitch Palettes is back !! After a year and 7 months this free lance web designer was so overwhelmed by her work load she decided to scale back a bit and bring Stitch Palettes back. She creates such wonderful combinations of color for stitchers and provides the DMC numbers to go with the grouping of threads. She also has a way to do your own grouping for a specific project along with a lot of other useful information. Starting this July, she will be resuming the weekly inspirational emails, and start publishing daily palettes on her website again. Lot’s to look at !! https://stitchpalettes.com/

On the last blog I was VERY excited to tell everyone about Moore Stitching’s new canvas of the Barfoot Contessa (of course I bought her!). I should have waited as they came out with a bunch more and how fitting to have Anna Wintour just as she is about to step down from her Editor – In Chief position at Vogue! Scarlet O’Hara is very detailed and Betsy Ross is adorable. The last one needs no introduction – in the commercials she loves her dirt !! Check out Moore Stitching as they have other very cute items (particularly if you like the Royal Family). https://moorestitching.com/collections/new-arrivals

I find that many needle pointers happen to be Mah Jong players. The tiles can make a lot of noise on a table so many people buy a mat to muffle the sound. Of course if you really want to be fancy – KC Needle Point has a mat you can stitch !! Yikes. SCT designs created a 13 mesh piece that is 32 inches X 32 inches. Yes it is pricey – but what a statement !! Of course they carry several smaller items to stitch ! https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/collections/new-from-market/products/mahj-mat-needlepoint-canvas?omnisendContactID=61fc368aa1816e00226a532d&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+Mahj+mat+%28684f25df89fe8410e6ba7532%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

New Club Alert !! This one is a bit different as it’s thru none other than Bedecked and Bedazzled. Ruth is doing several Halloween items by her favorite (and many of us) – Zecca. It’s a trio of Twisty Trees. The madness starts in September and I can’t imagine the embellishments alone on these canvases. https://bedeckedandbeadazzled.com/product/halloween-trees/

If your looking for a more “traditional” club – The Needlepointer has a Halloween themed club called “Fang-Tastic Cookies” A 12 month club with 18 count canvases that are 5X5 – quick and easy. Stitch guide and thread pack complete this monthly journey of boo-tiful culinary stitching. https://www.theneedlepointer.com/fangtastic-cookiesdiv-idclubsubtitleopen-enrollmentdiv/p8515671?cse=nl062125&goal=0_3621358244-fad24eb819-69343533&mc_cid=fad24eb819&mc_eid=2e6039e84f

I know many people that check out Gone Stitching’s web site particularly for threads. Best selection of Kreinik I know of. They have a system that makes finding what you want easy and it is mailed right away or ready in the store by the time you get there. They have just updated their web site and made it even better !! It’s easier to use and much more colorful. Things like this make the search for an item less of a chore so you can keep on stitching. https://www.gonestitching.net/

Needlepoint .com has a beautiful new selection of map kits. One is prettier than the next. I bet there will be more to come in the future !! They come in either 13 or 18 mesh and are “stitch printed” making it easier – no guess work as to which color is at that intersection. Stitch guide and premium thread is included. Great suggestions on how they used them in the pictures. Bet these are fun to stitch and a great gift. https://needlepoint.com/collections/the-map-collection?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=2025_06_24%20Map%20Collection&utm_klaviyo_id=01EY735XHE675Z0Z1C4Z7SB8DK&_kx=SpNrwJYeSg8JHGV3vDRNkpeUD67Ddf2hdz1HBTATTO0.TxAVmM

If you are or know someone that is new to stitching and is ready to learn some new stitches this might be a great learning canvas. KC Needlepoint has their signature stitch challenge. You learn 21 stitches on a 13 mesh canvas. The kit includes stretcher bars, tacks, guide, needle minder, needle and premium thread (pepper pot silk, silk lame braid). Even better – it comes in 4 color ways. A great way to learn. https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/products/2021stitchchallengekit?variant=37764888133806

Now that your thinking about some of these projects – OR – are getting ready to go on vaca – – every respectable Bag Lady needs a new bag to carry her “Stuff” in. Rittenhouse Needlepoint is showing the new Planet Earth/Tilli Thomas tote bags. They are self finishing cotton canvas with a pocket on the back and take either 5 or 6 inch canvases depending on size. They come in 7 colors and from the side, look like they have plenty of room. https://rittenhouseneedlepoint.com/collections/new-arrivals-needlepoint

News Flash !! There is a new store now open in Kennebunkport Maine called Destination Needlepoint. How convenient for those vacationing in that beautiful state. From the pictures on Instagram they are located in a quaint looking house and have plenty of stock to look at in the store. They also look like they want you to be comfy as there are lots of chairs and a lovely looking yard to relax and chat in. https://www.instagram.com/destination_needlepoint/

The idea is catching on – first I saw Morgan Julia and now Atlantic Blue Canvas is doing a reward program. You get 1 point for each $1 your spend. There are various tiers of points and the rewards get better. Read the details on the web site and shop till you drop. https://www.atlanticbluecanvas.com/pages/abc-wave-points?_kx=_6T6ZEqw3FzRTyL6whjCxpBoWNmvx7M7ogeQHpVHlzk.SdsruM

Who was that Famous Stitcher? This is Don Lynch – the owner/designer behind Associated Talents and Two Sisters Needlepoint. He is actually a U of Kentucky graduate with a degree in Business. He opened a needlepoint store in 1999. He started designing when his mother asked him to design canvases for her and it grew from there. Even though our 35th Anniversary is officially in November all the members should have gotten that great little gift. A big Thank You to Jacqui C and Cathryn C. for all their work on that project. Nothing better to celebrate with than a new needlepoint tool !!

This coming week’s June meeting – yes, already – we will be hearing from Jacqui C. about finishing techniques and ideas. Always an interesting topic.

The count down is on – the seminar in August will be here before you know it. Though the seminar registration is now closed you have a little time left to register to exhibit some of your work. The deadline is June 27th. Share your work and vie for ribbons and awards. ANG has a brochure online with all the rules, categories etc. that you need to know.

ANG is starting a new Fundraising Campaign called Tapestry of Giving. This campaign is dedicated to raising funds that will help sustain and grow the programs and services they offer to members. Their goal is to raise $250,000 over the next 2 years. This effort will be done in phases and the first phase is for Lifetime Patrons. They will be getting email this coming week with details about the program. Eventually all members will be contacted. Hopefully they will be able to achive their goal and have ANG be viable for many years to come.

While we are at it – ANG is looking for 3 Board Member Positions, If you would like to be involved maybe VP of Operations, Membership or Administration positions would be of interest to you. ANG would love to hear from you. Contact Jennifer Holmes, secretary@needlepoint.org, for a job description and details to apply.

ANG has an interesting new way to get some help – they are going to have a Zoom session for everyone to ask questions. You can join in on June 29 at 10 AM PST and ask away. You can also stitch away and just listen – you might learn something you never thought of ! There is a Zoom link in the newsletter that comes to your email.

New Club Alert from The Needlepointer. Perfect for this time of year and they should be a quick stitch. They would look adorable as stand ups. It’s the Floral Fantasy Club and is 8 months long. Each month you get a design on 18 count, thread pack and stitch guide. When done you have a spring bouquet. https://www.theneedlepointer.com/floral-fantasydiv-idclubsubtitleopen-enrollmentdiv/p8515598?cse=nl060725&goal=0_3621358244-18dffa4619-69343533&mc_cid=18dffa4619&mc_eid=2e6039e84f

I don’t know about you but I have been a fan of The Barefoot Contessa for years. I have all of Ina Garten’s cookbooks and you can’t go wrong with any of her recipes. Guess what I found !! The brand has a lot of sizes and shapes plus – they are water proof! https://www.2sconeedlepoint.com/shop/Bags–Totes.htm

Like we didn’t have enough choice – there is a new thread out there – Firefly Burmilana. The Needleworks is carrying it for both retail and wholesale purchases. It’s a wool and acrylic single ply thread that comes in 40 yard skeins. It has a little sparkle in it !! Something to try. https://theneedleworks.com/product-category/fibers/

Do you send your finishing to Needlepoint.com – they do a beautiful job. Before you send anything make sure it’s going to the correct place. They are doing their finishing from a different address now. They feel this will streamline the process and who doesn’t want that with finishing such a long wait.

New Store Alert – and there are 2 of them!! The Stitch Katonah store is now open! Go visit with Margaret and Kristina and see what they have to offer. Right across from a Metro North station it should be easy to get to. I only see them on Instagram but the store looks very pretty !!

The second store is Island House Needlepoint. You know them from finishing and those wonderful laying tools, now they have opened their space in south Norwalk CT as a LNS with areas to sit and stitch. They are in the maritime building – 11 Day Street Norwalk, CT. Their finishing looks fantastic and I am sure they have lots of suggestions if your not sure how to have something finished. Their web site even gives you other things to do in the area!! You may want to check their calendar for up coming events. Looks like a neat place for a road trip!! https://islandhouseneedlepoint.com/

Now for a First – Fireside Stitchery is going to hold their first retreat and they are calling it the First Frost Retreat. They are doing it on Sunday October 12th and it’s a full day event. They have not opened it up yet but they say that there is going to be very limited seating. Watch their web site and emails for when they release more details ! https://firesidestitchery.com/pages/classes

Congrats to KC Needlepoint – they have hit the 10 year mark in business. Polly and Carol have worked hard and created not only a fabulous store but a wonderful wholesale line. To celebrate they are launching a collection of exclusive celebratory canvases, doing fun giveaways, and more surprises along the way – watch for their emails ! Also, read their story – wonderful how it all happened for them. https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/blogs/news/were-celebrating-ten-years-of-kc-needlepoint?omnisendContactID=61fc368aa1816e00226a532d&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+Blog%3A+10+years+%28682f27f17880ba789f548c4d%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

Tips and Tricks: An easy way to tell if your needle is the correct size for the canvas from Ellen Johnson of Serendipity Needlepoint:

Who was that Famous Stitcher? This is Joyce Petschek and she has a reputation as a “Bargello path finder”. She has a BA in Art History from Vassar and a master’s in Fine Arts from Harvard. You have seen her book from 1997 “Beautiful Bargello” – very popular. For Joyce, bargello is meditative and stimulates our creative ideas.

What’s Happening at NJNA 5/31/25

Standard

If you missed Chris Loudon’s talk on Bargello you missed a wonderful presentation. She incorporated several of the projects NJNA members stitched into her talk and she had lots more information she spoke about. If you belong to other guild’s she will be doing it again so you have another chance to hear her. I have to say, it was one of the best programs this year AND we have lots more to come. Another reason to become a member of NJNA. (I can’t wait for the sea jelly quick project) In November we are having Toni Gerdes talking about Rhodes Stitches. Lot’s of other things as well to look forward to.

ANG seminar will be here before you know it. Registration is closed now as the festivities start on August 19 thru the 24th. You still have time to sign up to exhibit one of your finishes ! The deadline is June 27th. For $25 you can also have your piece critiqued with a written assessment. There will be ribbons and awards for a variety of categories. There is a link to do this in the Needle Pointers Newsletter.

Morgan Julia Designs and Penny Linn have some great destination canvases that are new. The Napa Valley, Paris, Tucson, Crab and Lobster Schack’s etc. A great place to stitch one of these cuties is during their Nantucket Needlepoint Weekend. The plan is for Thurs July 24th thru Sunday July 27th they will be stitching at various spots across the island. It’s free to attend but you have to make your own accommodation plans. Check out Morgan Julia’s new items while you look for a destination canvas – she has pretty new picture frames that look like bamboo. They are matted with a 4.5 X 4.5 opening – the perfect size for one of her bar carts. https://morganjuliadesigns.com/collections/retail-only

Penny Linn has now collaborated with MacKenzie Childs and is having a launch party at the MacKenzie Childs Soho location on June 5th. You need a ticket to the event but she will put all the new items on her web site at noon on June 6th. The tease is a courtly check tea kettle with matching needle minder as just some of the new items they will be carrying. Save the date if you a MacKenzie Childs fan !

Morgan Julia Designs has decided to start a rewards program. She named it after her dog “Captain” so you will be earning “Captain Cash” after you sign up for the program. She says there are many more surprises to come. They are also celebrating 6 years in business – Congrats and we look forward to seeing MJD flourish for many more years to come. https://morganjuliadesigns.com/pages/captainscash?_kx=rV4MBEfWGkwURglkyUXCLopGavY2DCJQzP6Y94aO8T4.RWeQns

Have you ever stitched a small canvas for the Lee tissue box?? If so you know they only come in 2 colors, beige and a light blue green – until now ! They have finally added 2 new colors – Navy and green. Easy and quick for a gift as it is self finishing and honestly, I use mine all the time. Check out their other self finishing products, so well made. https://colonialneedle.com/products/bag79?variant=50027041915168

I am seeing more and more coasters to stitch. Really great patterns and designs are popping up. Sudberry House has so many great items to finish your projects with. Don’t we all have at least one tray ?!?!?!? They also make coasters to put your canvases in. Check out their web site as they have more than you may have known them for. A nice way to protect yet use your stitching. https://www.sudberry.com/

Speaking of trays – KC Needlepoint now has a variety of acrylic trays in different shapes and colors. They will finish your piece for you and put it in the tray of your choice. If you want handles on your tray they suggest you send them with your piece so you get the handles you like. (Too many choices for them to carry handles). So pretty with vibrant colors instead of the wood or clear versions you mostly see. It’s all a matter of taste ! https://www.kcneedlepoint.com/blogs/news/brand-new-tray-finishing-you-wont-want-to-miss?omnisendContactID=61fc368aa1816e00226a532d&utm_campaign=campaign%3A+Acrylic+finishing+%28682e10cdcbc76c5b2fd00094%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

Do you have a “Needle Garage” ? What a cute small project from Color Compliments. They collaborated with Kam Wenzloff on the design and the finished item measures 8.5 X 4.5 on 18 count with 25 different stitches in the PDF. There are 8 different color ways and each kit has enough thread to do a 2nd one. https://colourcomplements.com/product/needle-garage-diy-needlecase

I noticed a newer designer called “Sisters” needlepoint on Third Coast Stitches email. What caught my eye was Girl Scout Cookies ! What a great item to stitch. I looked at “Sisters” web site and they have several neat items from conversation hearts to great looking liquor bottles to sweaters and more. Something new and different not to mention small ! A good size for a self finishing item. Try Third Coast stitching https://thirdcoaststitches.com/collections/new-arrivals and if you face a “sold out” box try going directly to Sisters Needlepoint. https://sistersneedlepoint.com/collections

Lot’s going on at Gone Stitching for the month of June. They moved their summer sale up to June this year so all in stock canvases are 20% off. They also have a new class for the summer. A Frame Weight or Frog Bean Bag class which will be held on August 24th from 10 am to 3 pm. The class includes one kit with stitch guide bars and threads along with snacks and lunch. All canvases are 13 count. When you sign up just let them know which canvas you want to stitch. Please call the shop at 201-385-2100 or email them at office @gonestitching.net to secure your spot.

Tips and Tricks: I was taking a class with Dawn Donnelly and she had a wonderful tip when your working with Neon Rays. We all know how that fiber can shred/fray on the ends. Before you start to use it, put the end flat on top of a glue stick and hold down with your finger or a small piece of paper on top and pull it off. The end of the fiber now has a small amount of glue that will dry quickly. Once dry you can stitch with the glued end by the needle – it’s going to get cut off at the end. Sue C said in that class that she regularly glues the end before putting the card away so she is ready for the next time she uses it. Good tip from both Dawn and Sue C.

Who was that Famous Stitcher? That was everyone’s favorite Debbie Rowley. I’m sure you get her emails from her company DebBee’s Designs. She is always at seminar and has done at least one program for NJNA in the past. Look at her web site, she has lots of free designs, video classes, charts and more. https://debbeesdesigns.com/
