Another year another SOTM project!

On a day that seemed more like May than January, the SOTM group gathered to stitch. We welcomed a few new stitchers to our group – we are so happy to have you!

Most of us are stitching the “official” ANG SOTM, which is an 8-pointed star designed by Kathy Rees. Kathy used a dark red and a dark blue for her palette, alternating points of the stars.

Here is our start on the project. Several of our stitchers are using Kathy’s suggested threads. However, it wouldn’t be an NJNA SOTM project if there weren’t color changes! What do you think will be the second color in February for each stitcher? (Apologies to Janet as I messed up photographing her piece.)

I was stitching with Sharon yesterday at the other New Jersey ANG Chapter to which we both belong. She was finishing up her November stitches on the SOTM project and I was able to get a picture. Sharon chose the same color palette as Robin, Joan, and Nancy, yet they are all so different.

She is enjoying the project because she had never done most of these stitches and so has learned quite a bit. Also, this is Sharon’s first SOTM and she has really enjoyed stitching with the group – it has helped having others to assist with decisions about colors and questions about stitches.

It was a cold Saturday for the November SOTM session. But, once again, we all enjoyed conversation as we stitched on this month’s motif.

The first three pieces all use the same colorway, yet look so different as the stitchers selected different threads for the various stitches.

Mine is a traditional red-white-blue combination. However, I am stitching on Congress Cloth rather than 18-count canvas so it is a bit smaller than the others.

Noelle wasn’t able to join us today so she stitched with us virtually! She is bravely stitching on black 18-count with luscious colors.

We are eagerly awaiting the final installment of this project!

The SOTM group did not meet this month – too many other obligations competing for time. However, we continued with our stitching. We are nearing the end of the year-long mystery project and are anticipating what comes next. A few members forwarded pictures of their progress.  We encourage other members of the group to post their progress!

It was a small but enthusiastic group at our latest session. All of us worked on the ANG SOTM, a mystery project that continues to intrigue as it evolves.

We all have our own colors and threads so we are especially grateful for the collaboration at these sessions as we muse over which threads to choose for each month’s stitch. Sometimes that results in going back to a previous month to change what had been selected in order for the colors to work together.

You can readily see from these photos how different the pieces look due to the choice of canvas and colors. (And, no, I’m not such a fast stitcher that I finished everything that session. I used a bit of blogger’s prerogative and waited to take my photo after I completed stitching on Sunday. I did go back and change some choices!)

We’re looking forward to next month!

What is it with the weather these days? Have we had two nice weekend days at all this Spring? And what exactly happened to Spring?

Last Saturday turned out to be the better of the two days this weekend and a small group of us gathered to work on the latest installment of the SOTM project. We all agreed that the mystery is causing some angst – since we don’t know what the final design looks like we are constantly second-guessing our choice of threads/colors. However, we also agreed that seeing the design emerging each month is part of the fun. We are trying to “go with the flow”, which is a challenge for many of us!

I think you will agree that our projects are all very different.
