What’s Happening at NJNA 3/8/25

Standard

Woodlawn’s Needlework Show has opened and NJNA has again been a big part of the activities. Congratulations to all the winners. You can see a list of everyone on their web site. NJNA members this year won a total of 12 awards – Great job everyone !! I also hear that the Nellies Needlers bake a tremendous amount of the cookies they are know for and you better go early to the show to get some – a big hit right after the needlework. https://www.woodlawnpopeleighey.org/2025-nws-award-winners

This months meeting is going to be worth the time – we are having Debbie Rowley doing her “Anchors Away” lecture. She does a wonderful job giving us pointers on how to start and end a thread. Don’t miss it Debbie is a great teacher !

Mark your calendars – the ANG Online Auction is at the end of this month. Hmmm they say there will be exclusive items and EXPERIENCES – what a tease. Can’t wait for more information to be released. It all happens on March 27 – 30 – love looking at all the items !

As you may know, ANG is trying to entice younger people to come join the fun. They have a deal to get your membership 50% less if your 35 and under. I certainly hope they are getting a bunch of takes because I found a list of the new members just for Feb – and that is a big list! This is a great way to “test drive” the organization to see if you enjoy our favorite hobby ! https://www.needlepoint.org/general/custom.asp?page=Membership

Did you watch the Today Show last week????? They had a segment about the new Penny Linn store – you can see it on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGv0Nltv7su/ I know people that went to the grand opening – hour and a half wait to get in the door !!! If you go to her instagram page you can see a tour of the new store – it’s big !!! She also has posted some of the new items for Spring. Can’t wait to take a road trip with the gang !

Another big move is the Wool and the Floss – they have moved their store to bigger quarters. If you go to their Instagram page they not only look like they have a great new place but the “Flossettes” are a fun group ! https://www.instagram.com/p/DG06QB6RXvT/

You may know that Melissa MacLeod the owner of the Wool & The Floss does a podcast with Megan Holmes, the owner of The Needlepoint Club House – called “Pointing It Out”. They have taken a break from that as Melissa has just moved but… Megan is going to move also in the near future. Good luck ladies – it’s nice to see needlepoint having a growth spurt !

Another big name in the needlepoint world is M’s Canvas House in Lexington KY. If you can’t find it – call them. She is the producer of the wonderful Big Buddies needle minders and is known for her “Bead Bar”. She now has a new adventure- a metallic thread line called Radiance. Check out the color variety (there are 102)- better than a rainbow ! The new thread is meant for 18 count with a new size for 13 count coming out in the fall. https://www.instagram.com/mscanvashouse/reel/DG0UKi9Ms0q/

In case your not aware – those beautiful threads from Color Compliments are a Canadian based company. The owner wanted to tell all her US customers that in this time of tariffs there is something called a a de minimis exemption. De minimis exemptions allow shipments under a certain value to enter a country without incurring customs duties or tariffs. These exemptions are put in place to simplify the trade process and reduce administrative burden. De minimis thresholds vary from country to country. Currently de minimus exemptions remain in place and orders below $800 are not subject to the current 25% tariff applied to goods from Canada. Any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out – info@colourcomplements.com
